League Promoters Are Meeting There This Afternoon to Decide the Fate of the Indiana-Ohio Circuit.

LOOKS AS THOUGH THE LEAGUE WOULD BE A GO.

Every Argument Is Being Advanced as to Why Both Anderson and Muncie Should Be Made Members.

Anderson, Ind., Feb. 27. This afternoon the promoters of the I.-O. league will hold a meeting here for the purpose of deciding once and for all the future of the organization. Despite tho balky actions of Anderson and Muncie the past ten days, it really looks as though the league would be a go. Mart Norton and Dal Williams of this city, are booming the Anderson club and they Etate that Anderson ill be represented in the league. What Norton Bays, ho generally means. Jack Urim of Indianapolis, a former well known National league player, is on hand and he wants the Muncie franchise in the event the Shamrocks decide not to take a whirl at lcugue. baseball. Jack would be a good man and he says he has plenty of backing for the venture. He whispers in your ear tho name of this "backer" and then makes you promise not to tell for awhile yet at least. Anderson is not a Sunday baseball town, but there is no reason why week- day baseball would not pay here. Right across the tracks from the Panhandle station the ball park is located and everybody who has ever been in Anderson knows that the Panhandle station is only about four blocks from the center of town. If the games here would be called about 4 p. ni., there is no reason why all the business could not take a respite from the chase of the almighty dollar and attend the games. If the Shamrocks turn down the I.-O. franchise and Jack Grim gets it, the plans are to locate a park near the center of town. The Shamrock park Is located on the extreme outskirts of the city and is several blocks from a treet car line.

A DEFINITE ANSWER

Probable Superintendent of Wernle Orphans' Home To Speak.

Would Like to Purchase the Home Telephone Plant in This or Any Other Indiana City Now.

COMPANY IS AGAINST CUT-THROAT METHODS.

Thought That the Local Bell Company Will Either Buy or Sell Out to the Independent Home Company Soon.

WHY HE HOLDS BACK.

Probably within another week a definite answer will be received from the Rev. L. II. Ridenour, of New Lebanon. O., as to whether or not he will accept tho superintendency of the Wernle orphans' home. Mr. Ridenour was here to inspect the home and said he would not accept the place unless assured that a new building would bo erected. He was given this assurance and has taken a few more days to think the matter over. It is believed probable that he will accept. Mrs. Ridenour will become matron. Mr. Ridenour is pastor of a congregation at New Lebanon.

ROWAND TO ANDERSON. The Rev. Charles A. Rowand, pastor of the First M. K. church at Ft. Wayne, is favored as the next pastor of the First M. E. church at Anderson. Mr. Rowand is well known in Richmond and is a son-in-law of Charles S. Farnham.

The Central Union company has at last come out of the woods and announced that it would like to purchase the Home Telephone company of this city or any other independent company in the state which is a competitor of the trust system. If the company can not buy independent lines it stands ready to sell out but prefers to buy. The company is also against the "rate-smashing, cut-throat method of securing business," and if it can neither buy up independent lines or sell out to them, it will be perfectly delighted to co-operate with the independents. For the past two years the local Central Union company has made no effort to increase its business. Because of the indifferent business methods displayed by the Bell people in Richmond, it is the general belief thac in the near future it will either absorb the Home company or sell out to it.

! The officials of the Central Union have

i just issued the following statement: Public Considered. ! "At the meeting of local managers of Central Union offices in the Second Indiana district, held in the office of J. W. Stlekney, Anderson, j lnd.. the statement was emphasized ' that the Bell company is done with the rate-smashing, cut-throat methi od of securing business. It is out

to serve the public, it is said, by giving what is desired and in order the better to serve the public the Central Union company is ready to meet and co-operate with any independent line in any way at any place and on an equitable basis. The toll line busines is the patronage most sought after by Bell companies and wherever rural or independent lines desire to connect they will be met half way. "The Central Union is for the onetelephone system and is open for negotiations to buy or sell to bring about conditions at any time or place. "The expense of maintaining a

So fur as the city authorities are informed, nothing definite, has thu.s far been done by the various companies affected by the ordinance requiring the removal of poles from Main street. It is understood the Bell Telephone company is having plans prepared for the work that it contemplates doing.

but the company has not communi- ! cated any thing t the city as to its in-

Union Telepraph company were in the city this week and looked over the ground, but they did not hold any conference with the city officials. It is believed by many that the companies cannot comply with the provisions of the ordinance by June 1, which is prescribed as the limit for getting the poles removed and the wires underground, and that it will be necessary for the council to extend this limit.
