Paris, Feb. C. Professor Chantemesse, the eminent. French bacteriologist and hygienie expert, has given warning of the imminent danger of a cholera epidemic spreading into Europe from the centre of infection at Mecca. What he fears is the eruption of the disease into Egypt, whence it easily might, be disseminated throughout the whole Mediterranean basin. In the paper which he read before the academy of medicine, he said that the nieasures of disinfection and of quarantine, as the. latter is now enforced, constitute an insufficient protection auainst cholera. It has been proved that persons apparently in good health may yet carry the germs c.f the disease and afterwards become a centre of infection.

Washington, D. C, Feb. 26. There have been plenty of responses, both from officers and enlisted men, to Sec

retary Tart's invitation for an expression of reasons of discontent, and unrest in the army. The reasons given us contributing to disturbing conditions are the practice marches; compulsory exercises in the gymnasium, in some cases; inadequacy of the ration and the cutting off "extras' in the way of food, and the character of extra work. The department has already taken steps to ameliorate some of these conditions.
