INTEREST IN TRACTION LINE. Fountain City, in appointing a committee to meet with the Richmond committee to consular the question of new traction lino from the north, has frcted wisely. Not only -will such a line be extremely beneficial to Richmond in the new avenues of trade that will be opened tip, but it will also be t, godsend to tho arioua cities aloug h"rout.6of the proposed line. At least that baa been the experience of such cities as Centerville, Cambridge City, ate., alonj? the route of our east and Rest traction, line. From what statistics no can. Rather it appears that a traction, line enhances the value of the property along which.it passes about flouble. Offering a means of quick transportation between important points, the people living in the sma.ll towns along the route have practically Ihe eame advantages as though they (sere living ia tho most important city Hong tho line. Centerville, for lnttance, since, the establishment of the interurbaa system, has all the advantages afforded by Richmond just as though it were situated within our city limits. Men from Centerville are able to greatly increase their earning capacity by working la various Richmond establishments, and at the same time are able to live la their homes in their native town on account of the excellent, transportation; facilities afforded. Fountain-City will find the same thing true in its case. The main thing, however, to be sure of with regard to the proposed traction line from the north, ia as to the men backing it and their ability to deliver the goods. A lino of the magnitude of the one proposed will require a great deal of money to construct, and unless the right kind of men are in charge, a lot of senseless waste might be entailed.
A VICIOUS MEASURE.
The Aldrich currency bill is simply
a measure, which, if passed, will en
able Wall street not only to use the government's money that it now receives in times- of financial stress, but
also to use the government's credit
It proposes to allow the government to
issue additional currency in panicky times with railroad bonds as security. The total amount of money that can
be thus issued is $500,000,000. It is a Wall street measure entirely and as
such is frowned upon by practically all
the substantial business men of the country. It is now claimed that Pres
ident Roosevelt is going to use his in
fiuence to push tho bill through the house in order that the republican party can go on record before the peo
ple at the coming cleotion with a cur
rency measure to its credit. That re
port may be but a story hatched in
Wall street, in line with the rest of the lying and malicious stories that have
been circulated about our president.
We hope it is. We have no desire to have the repnblioan rarty go before the people with the Aldrich currency
bill to its credit. The stench of Wall
street would do so strong that even good old republican voters couldn't get near to vote their favorite ticket. The
measure is entirely too vicious, and should not have any consideration at
the hands of our representatives in the
house. "Kill it," should be the party
slogan.

Cannon has reformed. He no longer
uses profane or improper language.
"Tarnation"' is his severest adjective and "geewhiliken'' Lis most excited expletive.
The wickedness of sin was borne in
upon Uncle Joe, aoording to the stories told in Washington by a visit from Rev. Mr. Clark, of tho Christian Endeavor society. He visited the speak
er and bilked to him about, an interview which Congressman Green of Massachusetts, bad given out in Boston. Green said ho thought the profanity of Uncle Joe would hurt his
canvass for the presidency. The ministers of the gospel and church people generally. Green said, would feel that
a man of profane habit of speech
ought not to be set up on so conspicuous u. pedestal as tho presidency of thn United States.
It was then Uncle Joe resolved to mend his ways. He told Mr. Clark that he would no longer say "damn" to even a mosquito that bit him. Members of the house are much in
terested in the conversion of their Uncle Joe. A pool has been formed and Jim Tawney ha.s become stakeholder

M'CARTHY,PRESIDENT
Probable That Efficient Commercial Club Officer Will Be Continued.
PAST YEAR A GOOD ONE.
Directors of the Richmond Commercial Club will meet on the first Monday night in March and choose officers. As Johu F. McCarthy, the present president, has made such a splendid officer, it Is the general understanding that he will be renamed to this place, provided he Is willing to accept It. The past year has been a very good one with the club, which has shown much activity under the direction of Mr. McCarthy and E. M.
Haas, secretary. Through an over
sight, the name of S. K. Swayne was omitted from the list of newly chosen directors, as printed on Tuesday last.
A Woman's Back
The Aches and Pains Will Disappear
If the Advice of This Richmond Citizen Is Followed.
A woman's back has many aches
and pains. Most times 'tis the kidneys' fault. Backache is really kidney ache;
That's why Doan's Kidney Pills cure
it. Many Richmond women know Vr s.
Read what one has to say about it: Mrs. Frances Hamin, of :s7 North Ninth street, RlchnvxT", Ind., says: "I was induced to try Doan's Kidney Pills by my sister who had used them and had been cured of kidney trouble. I was having severe backaches and pains in the loins and shoulders, and at times it was very severe. I got a box of Doan's Kidney Pills at A. G. Luken & Co's drug 6tore and began using them. I took only two boxes in all and was entirely freed from my aches and pains, and have never had a return of my trouble since, although It was several years ago that I used them. My sister and I both think there is nothing so good as Doan's Kidney Pills arid very gladly recommend them to other kidney sufferers." For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo, New York, sole agents for the United States. Remember the name; Doan's and take no other.
Excessive or continued use of a'eoholic beverages always results in a diseased condition of the nervous .system. The drinking man often heard to say, "I can etop of my own free will and when I wish," but the poor fellow is now devoid of the power to act at the proper time and in the right way, it's too late, the craving has secured a firm hold and because of the diseased nervous system he has not the. ability for sustained effort. The result we ali know.
Drunkenness is no longer consider
ed a crime; eminent scientists and
physicians have agreed that it is a disease and must be treated as such.
The home treatment that has been
used for a number of years, and is
highly successful, is Orrine. It is sold
under a positive guarantee that if it does not effect a cure your money will be refunded.
Orrine is in two forms. When de
siring to give secretly, purchase Orrine No. 1, and if the patient will vol-
untadily take the treatment, Orrine No. 2 should be given. The guarantee is the same in either case. Orrine
costs but $1.00 per box. Mailed in
plain sealed wrapper on receipt of price. Write for free treatise on "Drunkenness" mailed iu sealed en

'S
OPINION
Holds That the Primary Law Does Not Apply to Many Counties.
POPULATION OVER 36,000.
'WILL NOT ARBITRATE" SAYS PRESIDENT BRAD!
Petitions Signed by Citizens Availing Nothing.
FILED FINAL REPORT.
I). W. Kinsey, executor of the will
of the late Lewis Kinsey, has hied his
final report, which has been approved by the court. It shows the total value of the estate was $121,864.53,
which has been satisfactorily distrib
uted.
The cry of a wounded hare resembles that of a child in distress.
In an opinion construing tho primary election law passed by the Legislature of 1307, sent to Elisha N. Hamilton of Kokomo, Attorney General James Bingham holds that, the law of 1007 docs not apply to primary elections held in counties not having a city or county seat of 36.000 population or more, unless each one of the political parties of the county seat casts 10 per cent of the total vote at the last general election, and the political parties, acting through their central committees and by a majority vote of the committee, elect to use the primary election law. "If either of such parties has failed to elect to use the law of 1907," says the attorney general, iu his opinion, "then such law has no application whatever to the primary election to be held in counties not having a city of 36.000 population or more." Referring to the effect of the law in Howard County, the attorney general says that if Howard County has elected to nominate its candidates undr the law of 1907, the political parties must comply with the conditions named in the law. The attorney general says that it is up to the committees. They may adopt their own rules and hold either a primary or a convention at such time and in such manner as they may choose.
