The police assert that there is much more evidence to show that murder was committed, and it is on this theory ihz they will continue their investigation. Divorced Husband's Belief. Samuel Dukes, divorced husband of the dead woman, is firm in the belief that his former wife was murdered, I and though be has mentioned the name of a man he believes had p;irt in the murder, the no lifts lake no stock in his opinion, as there is no evidence that the man in question has been in town within the last few months. j An examination of the revolver found bv Mrs. Dukes' side shows that the weapon had not been fb'ed recently. The inside of the barrel cviis rusty and was filled with dust. It showed no traces of powder or grease. The rim of the single cartridge that was exploded was also rusty, and the police assert that the cartridge was fired months ago. Harry Debbie, Richmond's ex-poliee-inan and former base ball hero, is making gooil in no uncertain fashion on the Rock Island railroad down in Arkansas. Hobble left Richmond some months ago to take a position as train auditor, a job similar to that
of the conductor on eastern railroads, as far as the collection of tickets is
concerned. He was immediately as
signed to one of the hardest divisions of the Rock Island line, which was
located in the "river bottom" district of Arkansas, noted for its bad negroes.
Each Saturday, according to custom
these negroes left their shacks and farms along the railroad and migrated
to the larger cities and after imbib
ing large quantities of whisky, took the train home again. And it was on a return trip that the fun began. The
negroes never bought tickets for the
return trip and once on the train they
put up such a bold rnd threatening front that few train auditors made
very serious attempts, cither to col
lect fares or to put the non-payers c:f
the train.
Hobble ran up against this situation
on his first run. Those members of the old Columbia club of this city who remember how nifty Harry Ilebble was with the gloves, can guess pretty

To the Naked Eye They Look Like Specks of Dust. The smallest screws in the world are those made in watch factories. They are cut from steel wire by a machine, but as the chips fall from the knife it looks as if the operator was simply cutting up the wire for bis own diversion. Cue thing is certain no screws can be seeu. and yet a screw is made by every third operation. The fourth jewel wheel screw is next to invisible, to the naked eye resembling a speck of dust. With a glass, however, it can be made out quite distinctly. It has 200 threads to an inch. These little screws are four one-thousandth of an inch in diameter, and the heads are double in size. It has been estimated that an ordinary thimble would bold lOO.fXtO of them. About 1,000,000 of them are manufactured in the course of a month, but no attempt is ever made to count them. In determining the number loO of them are placed on a very delicate balance and the number of the whole quantity calculated from the weight of these. All the small parts of the watch are counted in this way, probably 50 out of the 120. When they have been cut the screws are hardened and put into frames, about 100 to the frame, beads up. This is done very rapidly, but entirely by the sense of touch instead of by sight, so that a blind man with a little experience could perform the task.
