It You Need
The past year, was the worst for fruit of all varieties that has been experienced in Indiana tn recent years. This statement is made by Walter Ratliff of this county in the fifth annual phenological report which he is now preparing for the United States department of Pomology. Mr. Ratliff is the state agent of the department. In his report he also informs Uncle Sam that the state of Indiana is an exceedingly poor place for plum culture. For the past five years an almost total plum crop failure in Indiana has been reported. Last year early budding followed by killing' cold practically ruined the entire fruit crop of the state. Mr. Ratliff's report includes a summary of data on horticulture, agriculture and forestry. The report is made under the direction of the Hon. P. J. Gould, head of the bureau of pomology of the United States Agricultural Department. In his report on state horticulture, Mr. Ratliff shows the time of blossoming, ripening, gathering, keeping and marketing of fresh ripe fruits. In the report on state agriculture, which also includes vegetables of all kinds, melons, pumpkins and pickles. Mr. Ratliff describes the time of seeding, planning, cultivating, ripening and harvesing of crops. The report on forestry describes the leafing and fruiting of the Hoosier forest trees and gives the time of coloration and falling of the leaves. The report is a most comprehensive one and will include, on completion, about ninety foolscap pages.
This picture was one of the remarkable exhibits at the Berlin automobile show. They arc made of automobile tires and are supposed to represent President Roosevelt. The infusion of air into the tires forming the arms of the figure caused vigorous
I gesticulation making it appear as
though it was making'a speech. At the end of the supposed speech the air would he deflated and the figure would collapse as shown in the lower picture.
EIGHT CANDIDATES WILL FIGHT III SIXTH Senator E. E. Moore Expects Things to Sizzle.
State Senator E. E. Moore, of Connersville, who was in Richmond yesterday, expects a rather warm congressional fight among the republican candidates in the Sixth district. Senator Moore is the candidate from Fayette county, and there are now seven other candidates as follows: Thomas Davidson. Greensburg: W. O. Barnard. New Castle: C. V. Stivers, Liberty: Will Hough. Greenfield; and Wilfred Jessup, the Rev. J. O. Campbell and M. W. Yeucer, of Wayne county. Two
of the Wayne county candidates will
be eliminated at. a primary to be held February t. After this elimination, it is understood all of the counties will stand loyally by their favorite sons. Senator Moore says he has the indorsement of the delegation "in his county and Mr. Barnard's candidacy has already been indorsed by a mass meeting of republicans in Henry county.

HUGG MEETS PANTHER ON RIVER BRIDGE
Horse Shies and Beast Plunges Into Thicket.
Princeton, Ind.. January 18. Samuel Hugg. farmer, several miles west of this city had an exciting experiment today with what he believed was a panther. Hugg was on horseback, and was passing through the Patoka river bottoms. As he was crossing Blackbridge, five miles west of here, his horse shied and came near throwing tne rider off. At the far end of the bridge Hugg saw an animal larger than a dog, and which he is sure was a panther. His horse became unmanageable, and. in the excitement, the strange creature made a dart from the other side, passing by or under the horse. It then disappeared in .1 near by thicket. Hugg says the animal was gaunt and powerful of frame. It's cry was sharp and piercing. The Wabash river bottom residents are principally negroes, and the news that a panther or other ferocious animal is at large in that section has caused intense excitement.
HYPNOTIC AID USED TO MAKE BABY, BO!
Mother Wished for Girl; Father Took to Science.
COMMISSIONERS' TRIAL IS AGAINJOSTPONED Charged With Violating Bridge Contract Law.
New York. Jan. IS Pre-natal hypnosis as a factor in sex control, it was announced yesterday, has had a remarkably successful demonstration in this city. The subject of the experiment is Mrs. H. A. Folgen. of No. W Fast Sixty-third street. The operating psychist is Gustav A. Gayer, of No. 131 West Sixv-third street. Following hypno-suggestkui treatment that lasted about u year, the object of which was a mule child, Mrs. Folgen has become the mother of a boy baby. He is healthy, well formed, weighs something more tjian ten pounds and awakes the echoes of the neighborhood with proofs of his sound lungs. He is just the little creature that his father wanted when he engaged Dr. Gayer, who took the case on a contingent fee. Dr. Gayer pointed with pride to a boy and the bill was paid. A noteworthy feature of the scientific achievement, says the psychist, is that the subject of the experiment had pinned her faith to a daughter, while her husband, for reasons not made known, desired a son.
New Castle, Ind.. Jan. IS. The trial of County Commissioners Charles l. Mohler, Robert M. Russell and John M. with failing to file a survey and pro- i file with the plans and specif icatioas i in accordance with the law. One of j the indicted commissioners, John M. I Huff, has retired from the office since j the indictments were :eturned. The; evidence on which the jury' indicted ; the commissioners was secured from i County Surveyor Ratcliff, who was called before the jury and asked to
