NEW YORK POLICE AFTER "BUCK HAND" Will Attempt to Put An End to Bomb Explosions and Incendiary Fires. (N THE ITALIAN COLONY. OUTRAGES ALWAYS FOLLOW FAILURE TO EXTORT MONEY ANOTHER TENEMENT WRECKED IN EAST ELEVENTH STREET. New York, Jan. 3 Spurred on by repeated bomb outrages and incendiary fires in the tenement house district, the police are making a systematic attempt to determine whether a regular organization is waging a campaign of blackmail in New York's Italian colony. Previous investigations of crimes of this character have been directed against individuals. The detective department has always been disposed to discredit stories of "Black Hand" or other similar societies, but the persistency of the fires and dynamiters, and the regularity with which they follow the disregard of anonymous financial demands, has been strengthening the suspicion that a regular organization is doing the work. Minck Brewing Co. in finding the headquarters of what was unquestionably a blackmailing and murder society also had Its effect on the local department. A bomb explosion in an East Eleventh street tenement house, which partly wrecked the Interior of the building, and seriously Injured one man, has stirred the department to activity, especially as it is known that "Black Hand" threats had been made against several of the tenants of the building. Italian detectives are endeavoring to find something from among their own countrymen concerning the probable source, not only of last night's, but of many previous outrages of the same character, and it is promised that the quest for criminals will continue until the leaders of the conspiracy are sent to the penitentiary. ON THE MARCH SCANTILY ATTIRED Twelve Daukhobor Pilgrims Shock Fort am. Fort William, Out.. Jan. o. Twelve Daukhobor pilgrims started out yesterday without clothes for one of their strange marches in the streets. They were finally rounded up by the police. Seven men and five women were in the party and they marched a half mile in scanty attire before being stopped. Today and Saturday are the Bargain days for Embroideries at Knollenberg's Store. 11 Roosevelt Is Determined to Prevent Indorsement of Hughes for Presidency. WORKS ON COMMITTEE. IT IS REPORTED THAT LOEB WISHES TO GO TO THE CONVENTION AS THE PRESIDENT'S REPRESENTATIVE. Washington, Jan. C Heroic efforts to prevent the republicans of New York state from presenting Governor Hughes as a presidential candidate are being made. It is now pretty well understood here that the white house is in direct command of the anti-Hughes campaign. Herbert Parsons, the president's lieutenant in the tight that is being made, hus caused a poll of the New York Republican county committee to be made, and from White House sources comes the information that this poll shows a majority of the members of the committee have promised to oppose anw indorsement of Hughes at the meeting of the county committee, on January 1C, the date of the next meeting. Hughes's friends have also been making a poll of the committee and are disposed to beileve they will have the votes to put through the Hughes resolution. Get Busy Up-State. The President's friends up-state in New Y'ork have also been put to work to check the Hughes movement wherever possible. Friends of the president are representing him as saying that everything possible must be done to prevent Hughes from getting the state delegation to the national convention. It is a part of the plan, so the New Yorkers say, to send some anti-Hughes delegates to the convention, even if the organization shall eventually be forced to declare for the governor. The president's secretary, Mr. Loeb, has decided that he must go as a delegate fro mthe Long Island district in which he votes, and steps are being taken to make his election certain. Politicians are watching the developments in the New York situation with keen interest, in view of the fact that the president evidently believes he can control the national convention for his candidate if he can sidetrack Governor Hughes. KILLS WIPE, SON AND HIMSELF Debt Coupled With Jealousy Probable Cause. Kingston, N. Y., Jan. 3. It is believed Baker murdered the woniau and the boy and then killed himself. He is said to have run heavily into debt recently and to have been jealous of his wife. Why I Lost My Job
Reasons Why Thousands Like Me Cannot Satisfy Their Employers. "I believe my fate is not unlike that of thousands of other workers who dally lose their places for reasons they do not know, and probably would not believe. When their lu.nt pay envelope comes along, it is usually '"Your services no longer required." If the truth were known, the reason for their unceremonious removal would probably i Ie that their usefulness was destroyed j because of some mental worry, bodily ailment or general indisposition. These l things, as we all know, are the most I fruitful causes of failure in all walks I of life. The battle of Waterloo was lost because of a headache. In this quick age our minds must be clear, rapid, active anil free from oiuside influence or worry, or else we go down to failure with the throng of "floaters" who go from one place of employment to another, giving no satisfaction to others or to themselves, constantly growing older and less useful, with no ambition, no will powei, and no hope. Every man requires from every other man the best that is in him. Hut no man can use or get the best that, is in himself until he is first free from all fretful indispositions and worries. That was my trouble. I was full of troubles. That's why I lost my job. My stomach in the first place was always out of order, and I was worrying about it and my mind grew cloudy and slow. I made mistakes, and grew grouchy. That was the end. There are thousands like me, going about with "quick lunch" faces, dyspeptic manners, and repulsive atmospheres. No employer wants such men's services. Take my advice. A healthy stomach is hair the battle, for it keeps your mind clear, and your face rosy. I have a healthy stomach now and hold a good position, and my employer is satisfied and so am I. I started to take Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets which I was told were good for the worst cases of indigestion and dyspepsia. The first two tablets made a wonderful difference in my condition. One ingredient of Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets digests 3,000 grains of food. The stomach doesn't have to work at all. The Tablets do all the work, no matter how heavy your meal. Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets cure brash, eructations, burning sensations, bloat, irritations, loss of appetite, nausea, heartburn, lack of energy, loss of memory, and dyspepsia and indigestion in their very worst forms. No other little tablets in the world can do so much. Y'ou should carry them around with you wherever you go and take them regularly after meals. Then you will realize what it is to be freed from stomach torment, and have a clear mind, a quick memory, a happy disposition, comfort and rest. Get Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets at any drug store for 50c a package. Send us your name and address today and we will at once send you bymail a sample package, free. Address F. A. Colonel Bobroff, chief of the provincial gendarmerie, was shot and killed in a crowded street here today. The school managers of the New Shoreham council schools have had brought to their notice the fact that a scholar in tho girls' department has neither been absent or late on a single occasion in eight years. The managers considered this a most remarkable record and it was resolved to ask the education committee to grant the scholar a special award. London Standard. CLOUDED BRAIN Clears Up On Change to Proper Food. The brain cannot work with clearness and accuracy if the food taken is not fully digested, but is retained in the stomach to ferment and form poisonous gases, etc. A dull, clouded brain is likely to be the result. A Michigan lady relates her experience in changing her food habits, and results are very interesting. "A steady diet of rich greasy foods such as sausage, buckwhect cakes and so on. finally broke down a stomach and nerves, that by inheritance, were sound and strong, and medicine did no I apparent good in the way of relief. .My brain was clouded and dull and I was suffering from a case of const ipation that defied all remedies used. "The -Road to Wellville.' in some providential way, fell into my hands, and may heaven's richest blessings fall on the man who was inspired to write it. "I followed the directions carefully, physical culture and all. using GrapeNuts with sugar and cream, leaving meat, pastry and hot biscuit entirely out cf my bin of fare. The result I jam in perfect health one more. " I never realize I hr.ve nerves. f.nd jmy stoma eh ar.d bowels are in fine condnioa.
