FARMERS
CROPS UNTIL SPRING
Railroad Official Declares Many Are Doing This.
HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY.
There has been no increase in the movement of grain out of Richmond. The farmers are still holding on to their crops and will not make any effort to sell until the spring. '"It is a question of being able to hold until next year." said a railroad man yesterday, "and the farmers of Wayne county and eastern- Indiana seem to have plenty of funds on hand to tide them over the winter. There is a great deal of grain in this section of the state that has to be moved."

Lalande's Dried Spiders. Lalande, the French astronomer, -was better known for his objectionable habit of eating dried spiders than for his discoveries in astronomy. Lalande used to carry about with him a little silver box full of dried spiders, which he ate in public and amused himself by offering: to ladies. One day be told the Comtesse de Terthuis, w ho did not reveal the fact till long after the astronomer's death, that he had never eaten a spider in his life and that what he carried in his box were only imitations made of chocolate by a friend who was a confectioner. He did it merely to advertise himself, for he was a vain man aud considered that sufficient attention was not paid him as an astronomer.
WILL ATTEMPT TO SECURE FORTUNE
With two clerks standing in a small enclosure and expres? goods piled to the roof of the car, a local express agent was informed thct there was not
even enough room for a spool of thread j Home 15S9, Bell 53-R
this morning when a fast Pennsylvania train pulled into the union station. The express business is something out of the ordinary. The through express cars are loaded to the roofs and there
is no use tomake an effort to get express out from the smaller cities on them. The accommodation trains are also experiencing an unusual rush j of business and the rush i3 not yet at . its height. It is expected that there j will be considerable delay, as is usu
ally the case, unless express packages are started early on their journey, since the rush at the preset time is such as to prevent local articles being sent out except on the local passenger trains. The force of clerks has been
doubled by the railway companies, but they are unable to cope with the situation.

Representations t of ine greyhound appear on sculptures over years old. There is no doubt that it is one
of the very oldest fixed types of dog r
and the most universal in its distribution. India; Arabia and Persia are among the countries that for ages past had the greyhound. Lately there has been exhibited in England a greyhound from Afghanistan a shaggy
form, suited to that mountain landJ Of course these dogs are not all exactly greyhounds In the Western : sense, but they are essentially thef
same in type; they are "gaze hounds." long-legged, light-built dogs, bred to run their game by sight and not by scent, and to overtake it, not by wearing it down, but by sheer peed and skill in running. How this type was (Tarda Hindi interftatiriK, snamslalton.
