DECLARES EVIDENCE GIVEN BY

i HIM WAS DEMANDED OF GRAND JURORS WHEN HE WAS SUMMONED BEFORE THEM. New Castle. Ind., Dec. 21. Cpunty; Commissioners Charles D. Mohler and; John M. Huff, indicted by the last! grand jury for failure to comply withj the law in letting bridge contracts, : i will have a hearing in the Circuit, j court Jan. 17. The cases had been i set for trial next Monday, but an ex-! tension was asked by the state, which j is not yet ready to try the cases. It develops that the information on ! which the Indictments were based was i given the grand jury by County Sur-, veyor Ratcliff. Although it was eharg-j ed that spite work caused the indict-1 ments, Mr. Ratcliff denies that it en-; tered into his actions at all. In a published article in a local j newspaper Mr. Ratcliff vigorously n-j sents the charge of spite work on his i part. He says he was subpenaed to appear before the grand jury, was questioned as any other witness and merely told the truth as how matters stood. He charges also that the bridges erected in the county in the last two j years have been away below the sped- j fications in many ways and, although j he so reported such deviations from the contract to the commissioners.! they took no action relative thereto,! but accepted the work. Some inter-j esting facts are expected to be brought out in his testimony. RETURNS TO NATIVE HEATH. Eph. M. Douthit Visits Greensfork After 20 Years. Greensfork, Ind.. D?c. 21. Arrangements have been completed for a reception to be given to one of our former citizens. Eph. M. Douthit, of Austin, Texas, who left here 20 years ago. It will be his first visit to the old town since he left. POULTRY LOWER. Christmas Turkey to be in Reach of. All. j Cambridge City. Ind., Dec. 21. The poultry market locally, is lower than at any time for several years. At Thanksgiving time the market went to pieces. All fowls wee sold at reduced prices and since that time there j has been a slow decline in the market : price of all kinds of poultry, and it is freely predicted that Xmas turkey will be within the reach of everyone. FILIPINO PRESIDENT. Boy Who Worked at Cambridge Honored at Purdue. Cambridge City, Ind., Dec. 21. Jos. Rivers, a Filipino who it will be remembered spent some time here at j Boyd and Drischel's cheese factory j has been chosen president of the Puridue Cosmopolitan club composed of foreign students and it is said that he has royal blood flowing through his veins. REYNOLDS WAS BURR I ED. Unfortunate Who Died at Jail Laid to Last Rest. j Fountain City, Ind.. Dec. 21. The funeral of Scott Reynolds who died at the county jail Thursday morning was held at his home in Fountain City I Friday afternoon at two o'clock. The j services were conducted by Henry I Pickett of Lynn. The interment was at the North cemeterv. FOXES NUMEROUS. Two Were Killed by Hunters Near Milton. Milton. Ind.. Dec. 21 George Turner and Albert Newman each killed a fox yesterday. This makes three foxes killed in this vicinity by hunters of Milton, the other having been killed by Fred Murley. The animals were all large and fine ones. Badly Mixed Up. Abraham Brown, of Winterton, N. The schools will be closed from Friday until Monday, Jan. 6. The Sunday school of the M. E. church will give an entertainment at the church on Christmas eve. Presents will be given to the Children.
