Manufacturers Say That Railroads Are Caring for The Interests.
COMPLAINT ELSEWHERE.-
MANUFACTURERS OF INDIANAPOLIS SAY THAT RAILROADS ENTERING THAT CITY ARE TAKING AN ADVANTAGE.
All communications held strictly confidential. Address The Richmi(l Loam Co

While other cities In Indiana are complaining about rate discriminations, especially at Indianapolis, local manufacturers say that little complaint can be alleged here against the railroad companies. At Indianapolis however, the situation is said to have become so evident that a general campaign against all of the railroads en
tering that city will be started soon if the conditions don't improve. Local shippers state that discriminations in rates here are seldom, and the only trouble ever experienced here is an occasional car shortage.

TO BE MARRIED CHRISTMAS.
New York, December 20 Messrs. Hymen, Cupid & Santa Clans shipped the biggest and most interesting consignment that came to New York yesterday. The invoice called for thirtyeoven Scotch lasses, all destined to he Christmas brides for thirty-seven husky young Scotchmen, who have already made homes for them in this country. Long before the boat docked, thirty-
Beven happy secrets had percolated to
every quarter of the ship, and when
the Scotch girls came down the gangplank their fellow passengers were
waiting to shower them with rice, which the stewards had provided. The young women will scatter all over the United States, but among themselves they have agreed that, if possible, all the ceremonies will take place at the same hour on Christmas day, and a sort of endless chain system of congratulatory telegrams has been devised.

CLUB WIDOWS 111 BITTER RIVALRY Fair Matrimonial Promoters Clash Over "Divorcees."
GRASS AND SOD WIDOWS.
j Chicago, Dec. 20 The promoters of the Widows' Club (grass and sod) j have become involved in a violent quarrel with those of another hurry-up matrimonial club called "Devotees of the Domestic Shrine." j Mrs. Marie Russell, president and
organizer of the Widow's Club, charges Mrs. Cloe A. Parker, President of
the Devotees, with havingr stolen her thunder. She declares Mrs. Parker has plagiarized her ideas, to which Mrs. Parker replies: "I have not." ' Both Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Pike wanted to become members of my club," said Mrs. Russell. "They wrote to know about our club. Hut I would not let them in. They managed to find out enough from me to go ahead with a society of their own. "Mrs. Parker thinks she is going mo one better in admitting in addition to divorcees maids and bachelors. She also asks that each man who desires admittance to her lodge must be worth not less than $1,000 and have some real estate. This is foolish. It is only a false flourish. Then the idea of insisting on medical examination for entrance to the society. Ridiculous, isn't it?" Mrs. Parker was surprised at Mrs. Russell's charges. "Why, what nonsense," sho said. "I
never In my life asked to be admitted to Airs. Russell's Widows' Club. I im der stand her society is only for divorcees."

Pittsburg, Dec. 20.--"Yes, I taught
this girl to steal, Judge, and I taught
her to do it in such a clumsy manner
that she'd be sure to get caught. Why
did I do it? Because my husband was paying too much attention to her." The black eyes of Mrs. Georgene Allerton flashed today as she made this statement before Magistrate Brady. Mrs. Allerton, her alleged husband, Frederick Allerton and Miss Mabel Hall, daughter of Prof. A. E. Hall, a prominent East End private tutor, were all on trial, the woman
for shoplifting and Allerton as a suspicious person. Miss Hall was freed by the court.

AFFAIRS TAKE ON A HOPEFUL ASPECT
Neither of the local hotels will conform to the resolution adopted at Indianapolis by the Indiana Hotel Keepers' association in session there this week, to raise the rates. The resolution was to the effect that the prices of
ah food stuffs were so high that it
j was advisable that all hotel owners .'n
i the state should advance their rates. This resolution is not obligatory, how-
, ever, and it is thought by local hotel
men that the resolution will be gener-
i ally ignored in the state, especially
! where there is more than one hotel in
a town and there is any competition. Both of the local hotels are doing a good business, and while prices on all food stuffs are soaring, yet it is thought that an advance In rates would not be advantageous to the business interests to either of the hotels or the city in general.

INVESTIGATOR RETURNS.
Elwood, Ind., Dec. 20. E. R. Call of this city, who was sent to Revelstoke. B. C to untangle the affairs of the El
wood Tin Workers' Gold Mining company, has returned and he puts an entirely different construction tipon the matter from that which aeveloped in the circuit court at Anderson. He reports that investors will lose no money, as wealthy stockholders have come to the rescue, and all indebtedness will be canceled by March 1, after which expert mining engineers will make a thorough investigation of the property and work will then proceed along conservative lines. H thinks the property will soon be placed on a paying basis and that investors will receive returns by the first of November, 1108.
BREAKS IIP CLASS SPIRIT High School Authorities Suspend Boys.
Kokomo, Ind., Dec 20. Refusing to remove class colors as they were about
to enter the assembly room of the high !
school today, where there was a debate in progress between Ralph Cosier, a senior, and Kenneth Arnest, a freshman. Fern Lefever, Glen Wise, Harold Arnett and Harry Penn were stopped by Principal McCaughan. The boys were denied the privilege of returning to their studies until their parents give assurance of their future obedience to the rules. The authorities say they are deter-
mined to stop what they call the class
spirit, save where it manifests itself along agreeable lines.
