FOURTH GRADE PUPILS SHOULD BE PRACTICAL Fassett A. Cotton May Submit Problem. MAY AFFECT RICHMOND. In fifteen days John's cow gave 63 gallons and 3 quarts of milk; how many pounds of milk each day did John's cow give, and is that an average for a good cow? Thus would Fassett A. Cotton, state superintendent of public instruction, have the school teachers of the fourth grades in Richmond make the pupils think along practical lines. In his December bulletin, which was issued yesterday to the teachers of the state, Superintendent Cotton suggests such a question, with of course, some explanation as to how much milk is required to make a pound. The bulletin for this month is devoted almost entirely to impressing on the teachers the importance of using concrete illustrations when dealing with the subjects of arithmetic and geography. GENEROSITY SHOULD BE SHOWN TO Martha Kuhlenbeck Fell on Sidewalk and Was Injured. Attorney John F. Robbins has appealed to the city's generosity. He has asked that Martha Kuhlenbeck, formerly employed at his home as a domestic, was seriously injured last August by falling over a raised stone block in a sidewalk at North Tenth and B streets. She filed a complaint in the circuit court, but for some technical reason this complaint was rendered null and void. Mr. Robbins stated that Mrs. Kuhlenbeck was unable to work and that she was a deserving woman, and he thought the city should appropriate $150 for her. rCHIi Has made a special study of the proper care of the hands. HO LEGAL RIGHT TO SELL PARKLAND City Attorney Study Says City Should Not Sell to the Pennsylvania. WANT LAND FOR SWITCH. IF THE RAILROAD COMPANY BRINGS CONDEMNATION PROCEEDINGS, COURTS WILL RULE IN FAVOR OF CITY, HE SAYS. The city of Richmond has no right to sell the Glen or any part of it, is the opinion of City Attorney T. J. Study. Mr. Study says that if the Pennsylvania railroad company continues to insist on securing a part of the northern section of the park to increase its right of way, he would! advise the city to take no action in the matter and allow the railroad company to bring condemnation proceedings in the court. The city attorney expresses it as his belief, that if the railroad company does take such action, the court will rule against it on the ground that the using of the section desired by the railroad for a right of way would injure a public park. THE FARMER'S WIFE Is very careful about her churn. She scalds it thoroughly after using and gives it a sun bath to sweeten it. She knows that if her churn ii sour it will taint the butter that is made In it. The stomach is a churn In the stomach and digestive and nutritive tracts are performed pro cesses which are almost exactty like the churning of butter. Is it not apparent then that if this stomach-churn is foul it makes foul all which is put into it? The evil of a foul stomach is not alone the bad taste in the moutt and the foul breath caused by it, but the corruption of the pure current of blood and the dissemination of disease throughout the body. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery makes the sour and foul stomach sweet. It does for the stomach what the washing and sun bath do for the churn absolutely removes every tainting or corrupting element. In this way it cures blotches, pimples, eruptions, scrofulous swellings, sores, or open eating ulcers and all humors or diseases arising from bad blood.
To aid in healing old sores, or ulcers, apply Dr. Pierce's All-Healing Salve to them while taking the "Golden Medical Discovery" to purify and enrich the blood. Dr. Pierce's All - Healing Salve is cleansing and pain relieving. It destroys the bad odors arising from suppurating, or running, sores and puts them in the best possible condition for healing. The " All-HeaHng Salve" is a superior dressing for all open, running, or suppurating, Sores or Ulcers. For healing open wounds, cuts and scratches it is unsurpassed. If your medicine dealer does not have the n All-Healing Salve" in stock mail 50 cents in postage stamps to Dr. X. V. Pierce, Buffalo, N. Y., and you will receive it by return post. In treating all open sores, or ulcers, boils carbuncles aud other swellings, it is important that Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery be taken persistently to purify the blood and thereby remove the cause of the trouble. It is in the blood that the great battle of health has to be fought. The ulcer and the sore are simply the 6carlet flowers of disease, with roots running down into the blood. These roots muefe be eradicated or the disease will break oat afresh. w Golden Medical Discovery" cleanses the blood of all foul and poisonous accumulations, pushes out the dead and waste matter, and thus purines the entire life current. Disease in the flesh must die out when it ia no longer fed by foul blood. "Golden Medical Discovery" effectively cures disease in the flesh by curing its cause in the blood. If yduy have bitter, nasty, foul taste in o(x mouth, coated tongue, foul breath are weak and easily tired, feel ed and desDondent. have frefit head leadahes, dizzy attack, gnawdistorts in stomach, constipated dist bowels, sour or bitter eatmz and poor appetite. oms, or any considerable (oi them, indicate that you are from biliousness, torpid, or ver with the usual accompanying stion, or dyspepsia and its attend ant derangements. CREATED A SENSATION. NOW SPECULATION IS RIFE AS TO WHAT SIGNIFICANCE IT WILL HAVE ON ULTIMATE OUTCOME OF THE HEARING. Georgetown, Ky., Dec. IS. Mysteriously hidden since Jan. 30, 1900. the day of the tragedy, ths famous Marlin rifle, from which the shot that killed Gov. In the present trial Youtsey testifi ed that during his confinement in the Georgetown jail in company with Powers, the latter asked him if he could identify the rife. Youtsey said that, fearing a trap, he replied that ho did not think he could. On crossexamination, Maj. Owens, for the defense, had asked Youtuey as to the present location of the rifle. The convict witness replied: "It has been in possession of your sido all along, and Powers ought to know." In answer to the questions put to Powers it developed that Powers had made an effort since 1903 wheu ho was last tried, to find the Marlin rifle with which Goebel was killed; that he had succeeded; that he did not have possession of the rifle, but that he had the information that it is in George town. Speculation is rife as to what can Ik developed from the discovery of the long missing weapon. HAGERSTOWN, IND. Hagerstown, Ind., Dec. IS.
