LOOK FOB TOWH CLOCK THAT ISN'T THERE Visitors in Richmond Involuntarily Turn Their Gaze to the Court House Tower

110 STEPS TAKEN TO FORM LEAGUE

Nine out of ten strangers who come to Richmond, involuntarily turn their glance to the court house dome whenever they desire to know the time of day. Did you ever think of that? Have you ever noticed someone you did not know, turn his eyes up to the top of the court house? It looked funny, and the stranger looked sheepish afterwards, as though he knew he had made a mistake. But, sure as you're alive, that same stranger will not walk ten steps until he finds himself again looking at that court house dome. Then he fumbles at his watch pocket.

stranger who comes into tne city or goes by on the interurban cars. Perhaps the strangers aren't accustomed to seeing such noble structure. But the habit clings to the stranger. He may stay one day or one year, and when he starts to go away he will find himself involuntarily making eyes at the court house.

BOBBED BY FAKE WIVES ARE MANY FOREIGNERS Bold Scheme Now Being Operated in Pittsburg.

PRETTY GIRLS ARE USED.

Pittsburg, December 7 A remarkable scheme, involving the importation of "dummy" wives from points in Ohio and the performance of "fake" marriages by make-believe magistrates, all with the object of swindling trusting foreigners who desire life partners of their own nationality, has been uncovered by Pittsburg police, and the alleged principals in the traffic are in jail. Cleveland police will be asked to find tlie Ohio headquarters of the gang. Three Italians and a Pole conducted the business in Pittsburg. They had a large supply of pretty girls, whom they brought to Pittsburg from Cleveland long enough to stand as brides before a "fake" magistrate, rob their unsophisticated husbands and disappear.

APPLICATIONS FOR POSITIONS ON LOCAL TEAM ALREADY ARE COMING IN FANS WILL DANCE ON DECEMBER 18.

Since the meeting of the promoters

of the proposed Indiana-Ohio league ia this city two weeks ago, no further steps toward the organization of the league have been taken. Manager Jessup of the Richmond club, stuted last evening that next week he would visit the various towns proposed for admission to the league and endeavor to complete the circuit. So far only four cities have been, granted franchises in the new league-. They are Richmond, Anderson, Bluffton and Van Wert, Ohio. Manager Jessup is very anxious to secure a

berth for Hamilton, O., in the new j league, but there is some doubt if he j can interest any financial backing j there, owing to the fact that Hamilton is represented in the K. I. O. league, j All the leading sporting men in Ham-1 iiton are interested in this team. The K. I. O. league plays only Sunday balK j Every effort will be made to place a team in Muncie. which would make an excellent baseball town provided a park near tue center of the city could

be secured. Marion will in all probability be included in the I. O. league as the traction interests in that city desire to have Marion represented by a team in a pood league next season. Lima, O., and Piqua, O., are also desired by the promoters o fthe league.

Many new faces will be seen on the Richmond team when it is organized.

Boy. and Arleigh O., trial 2:23, trotter by Raven Wilkes; both are fast and promising horses. And there aio a number of other good horses in Rush county that will bring both fame and money to the county. A prominent local horseman, in summing up the business, said today: "Does it look like the horse industry is going backward or on the de

cline in the least? Look at Thursday's sale at Madison Square Garden, New York, where 170 head of ligft harness horses sold for a total of $151,551 or an average of $1,295 per head. In that number were four yearlings that brought $1,000, $1,250, $1,550 and $2,550. Does it look like it pays to handle baby trotters, when they will bring such prices as they have been of late? Indiana has produced the fastest stallion in the world, and all that remains to make it a clean sweep is to produce they fastest gelding. I wonder how many have stopped to think

; of these great achievements of our

state."
