ACCORDED J. E. DUNDY Canvas Sent By Him to Art Institute Chicago, Placed Beside One By Leonard Ochtman.
The single canvas sent by Mr. J. E. Bundy to the recent exhibition of oil paintings and sculpture in the art in
stitute, Chicago, was honored by being hung on the line ide by side with that of the celebrated painter. Leonard Ochtman and, as a well known critic of that city said, the two pictures were "rivals."' This is one of the great annual exhibitions held in this country each year, the one just closed being the twentieth. The greatest American artists, resident
I in this country and abroad are asked to i contribute and but one resident Indli ana artist other than Bundy was represented. That Bundy's canvas was hung on the line in excellent position with the work of Sargent. Dewing. Inness, Whistler, Gari Melchers. Charles
Warren Eaton, Ranger, and others of equal celebrity, argties its standard of artistic excellence and the favor in which this Indiana painter is held. Mr. Bundy's pictures are to be found in many of the best known private galleries in Chicago, a city in which ho is held in high esteem. This canvas. "The Last Dtiys of Winter," together with one by Ranger and another by Guge von Hofstein. were reproduced in the Sunday Record-Herald for October -'otli.

reproductions of photographs of these two artists appear, with elaborate bio
graphical accounts.
"Probably no two painters have ever drawn more deeply from the Inspiration that nature gives than have Charles Warren Eaton and John E. Bundy. both painters of the woods." si.ys the article, further stating that, "as good examples by both these painters are owned in Duluth and will probably be shown in the proposed exhibi
tion of the Duluth Art association. It will probably be of interest to know something of their careers and development ." Mr. Bundy. with Mr. Korkner of Chicago who was Mr. Bundy's guest for a month, has done much sketching during the auspicious autumnal weather.
the results of which will be seen later at exhibitions abroad. French consul at Canton, claims a still earlier birth for the News, which he says was founded early in the sixth century. i The Pekin Gazette, the publication of which, according to a recent telegram has-been suspended, is a very venerable patriarch among newspapers since it is said to have made its first appearance something like Khh years ago; but it is not as is often stated, the oldest journal in the world. This distinction belongs to the Tsing-Pao j (or Pekin News), which was founded nearly twelve centuries ago, and was venerable when its younger rival, the , Gazette was cradled. Indeed M. Huart.
Thorn Caused Boy's Death. New Castle, Ind., Nov. 20 The funeral services of Frank Vannatta, the 10-year-old son of Samuel Vannatta, north of town, took place Tuesday from the home. The death of the lad was caused in a peculiar manner. Several days ago he accidentally stepped on a thorn, which penetrated his foot.
