A MEETING AT BUFFALO. SCALE WILL BE ARRANGED FOR ALL LINES WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER OTHER NEWS OF THE RAILROADS. POULTRY
Firemen on both the C. C & L. and the Pennsylvania, running out of Richmond, will join the ranks of the National association of firemen to secure a re-adjustment of tue wage scale which will mean an increase, it is asBerted. Firemen on t-e Pennsylvania were granted an increase about one year, ago, but this, according to statements of one of them, did not meet the needs, nor did it come up to the standard considered good pay for labor given. , Division chairmen of Brotherof Railway Firemen will meet Grand Master J. J. Hannahan in Buffalo next Tuesday and a scale of wages will be arranged for all lines west of the MisBissippi river. It has been learned in Richmond that there will be a stout resistance on the part of the railroads, as many officials claim there will be hundreds of railroad men seeking work In the near future, and it will be a very easy manner to dispense with the services of the firemen if they should demand an increase. Local firemen, however, do not take such a view of the situation and think the railroads

Increase which will undoubtedly be arranged. Forty-three thousand firemen will be affected by the increase should It be given. Just how the demands will be presented to the railroads, has not yet been determined, but a feasible plan will be adopted at the meeting in Buffalo Tuesday. Its outcome is awaited with eager interest among Richmond firemen. EXTRA SWITCHING CREWS. So great has become the freight business on the G. R. & I., north of Richmond, that two extra freight switching crews have been added that the increased business may be handled with dispatch. By the addition of the two switching crews freight is handled much easier by the through freight trains and much time Is saved In transportation. TESTING ELECTRIC BRAKE. The Pennsylvania is now making a
series of tests with an electrically controlled brake which it is the intention of applying to the fast train3 of the system. If It Is successful the road will place them on all trains but this will not be the case unless the brakes are perfect. WINTER UNIFORMS DUE. Sunday the white caps and summer wearing apparel of Pennsylvania trainmen will have to be relegated in favor of the regular winter uniforms. The order has been issued from the general superintendents office in Pittsburg. Many of the trainmen and local attaches will blossom out in new and natty blue uniforms, the regular Pennsylvania winter standard.
EXCURSION TO INDIANAPOLIS. The Pennsylvania will run probably its last popular excursion to Indianapolis Sunday. The customary rate will prevail. A large number of people are expected to take advantage of the low rate. LULL iTT'tRAFFIC. There is a lull In passenger traffic at the present time from some unknown reason. The passenger business during the entire summer up to the present date has been exceptionally good and local railroaders are at a loss to understand the lull. A good business, however, is being done by both the C, C. & L. and Pennsylvania.
