Kida, a native Japanese who is now
in America studying that he may eventually return to his own people
and better teach the doctrines of the
Quakers. Bunji Kida became a member of the Society of friends while in
his own country. He is intimately ac
quainted with Mr. and Mrs. Gurney BInford who are the missionaries in Japan. : The letter was signed by Mr. BInford who is now superintendent of Friends' mission work in Japan. Bunji Kida has been a minister of the gospel In Japan for about fourteen years, and at different times taught various religious doctrines but about six years ago became identified with the society of Friends and has since taught their principles. Among the other visiting Friends
ministers were Sarah Jane Lury and!
Elizabeth Bevan Rutter, both members of the London, England, Yearly meeting. They are now on their way to Australia and New Zeland, where they will open Friends' homes and further engage in missionary work. Tebbetts Will Speak. Charles E. Tebbetts former president of Whittier college located at Whlttier, Cal.. and considered one of the most brilliant men in the entire Friends' denomination, attended the cessions. Mr. Tebbetts will speak before the Yearly meeting some time during the week. This afternoon the committee appointed by Eli Jay at last year's session on ministry and oversight, met and discussed the ratios, In the distribution of finances that should prevail during the coming year. Each quarterly meeting was apportioned a certain amount to pay to the general expense fund. This afternoon reports from the various quarterly meetings on the condition of the ministry were read. These reports were interesting as well as
instructive. Routine business matters occupied the attention of the meeting during the greater part of the afternoon. Tonight the devotional sessions of the meeting will be conducted. Begin on ' 'sdnesday. The yearly meeting sessions proper will begin in earnest Wednesday
morning when at eight o'clock the per
manent yearly meeting board con
venes and devotional exercises are
held. Promptly at ten o'clock the for
mal opening of the yearly meeting will be made with the roll call of the
delegates and alternates. The sessions will continue during the entire day and will end with devotional services Wednesday night, beginning at seven thirty o'clock. Ono of the feature addresses of the week will be Thursday afternoon at two o'clock when Judge Samuel R. Artman of Lebanon who but so recently attacked the supreme court on the constitutionality of liscenslng saloons, speaks before the Indiana meeting on temperance. The appearance of Judge Artman at th yearly meeting will evoke much interest owing to the re
form temperance decisions which he
has made in his court at Lebanon, Ind.

Phlladelohla. Pa.. Sept. 24. The
battleships Kansas and Georgia finish
ed a 400 mile race from Cape Cod to
the Delaware breakwater, and tiie Kansas won by an hour and seven
minutes.
The fighters started the race Sun-
day morning off the Massachusetts coast, and under full steam they made for the Delaware breakwater. The keenest rivalry has existed among the crews of both battleships and so
much talk had been going around up
forward and in the junior and the
senior officers' messes that Rear Ad
miral Evans decided to put the vessels to a test and settle the matter for
good.
With the battleships Kearsarge and
Maine, the latter being Admiral Ev
ans riagship, the Georgia ana tne
Kansas had been ordered to the lea
gue island navy yard to go in drydock
for repairs and to get in readiness
for the cruise to the Pacific. The
officers and men thought it would be
the proper thing to have the big fight
ers race all the way and demonstrate
which of them was the speedier craft,
Admiral Evans gave his consent, and when the battleships set their course off the Cape Cod shore they went full tilt. There was heavy betting among
the crews of both ships all during the
rac and mnnv n rinlln- ptianroil
hands when the Kansas dropped an- Land, WOOd and GraVeS FlP-
chor off Reedy Island, just inside the
breakwater. It made the trip in twen

beating the Georgia by sixty-seven
minutes.

The War I2--ctcr Capture the Orana Online Alive. Trapping the smaller members of the monkey family is a comparatively easy
aatter, but the hunter who wishes to
secure live specimens or tne ornng
rjtunz caunot have recourse to the
isual methods and has to employ o .aboiioua process. The process is based pon the fact that the orangs have a liking for certain trees and frequent these to the exclusion of other nearby growths. They seem to regard them a sanctuary and flee to them in time :f danger. Ascertaining a tree particularly favored, the hunter first drives his quarry to its branches; then while liis beaters keep up a din for the purpose of preventing an attempt at escape the natives are set to work to chop at the trees within a radius of fifty feet all about the simian fortress. No trunk is cut completely through, but is left with just enough fiber to hold the tree in position. This work is quickly accomplished with the large corps of servants, and at a signal one of the trees is toppled over. The chopping has been so done that the falling tree carries with it its neighbor, and in the twinkling of an eye the trees within a radius of fifty feet from the marked tree lie upon the ground, leaving the orang outangs with no opportunity for getting away through their leafy avenues of escape. The remainder of the process simply consists of chopping down the tree of refuge and throwing nets over the escaping orangs, in which they soon become entangled in their efforts to th-ow off the Incumbrance.

were doctored and sets forth figures to
prove the assertion. The annual report ending in June this year shows an extraordinary increase in the receipts
of the corporation during the last four months which are inexplicable and clearly made for the purpose of producing a favorable, but fictitious showing. The first third of the year sow
ed an increase of over a half million, then came the change In the presidency and the next third showed a decrease
of the same amount, and the next third an increase of the same. Finally In the last four months they increased over a million. Conditions were unchanged and statements doctored. He says the Union Pacific is fighting

how the best results can be obtained.
There's a reason for the effect of
Grape-Nuts food on the human body and brain. The certain elements in
wheat and barley are selected with special reference to their power for rebuilding the brain and nerve centers. The product is then carefully and scientifically prepared so as to make It easy of digestion. The physical and mental results are so apparent after two or three weeks use as to produce a profound impression. Read, "The Road to Wellvllle," in pkgs. "There's
