DEATHS AIID BIRTHS MUST BEREPORTED New State Law Regarding Vital Statistics Is Effective October 1.
RECORDS ARE IMPORTANT. CITIZENS ARE REQUESTED TO COOPERATE WITH THE PHYSICIANS AND HEALTH OFFICERS IN THIS WORK. Dr. Charles Marvel, county health officer, has received the following circular from the state board of health in reference to the importance of records sf deaths and births: The vital statistics law passed by the last legislature will be put into force October 1st by the state board of health. This law requires doctors and midwives to report all deaths, births and infectious diseases they attend, upon blanks supplied by the state board. When no doctor or midwife Is in attendance, then reports shall be made by the parents or householders. These legal records are of the greatest importance to families and to the state. In hundreds of instances in the past, inheritances, insurance and pensions have been lost because no legal records existed of death or of birth. In one instance in Indiana an inheritance of $12,000 reverted to the national treasury of Switzerland, because the doctor had not reported the birth of the person. This record would have proved the required relationship. Any family is likely at any time to need records of births and deaths, and all are therefore Interested In having the same reported and properly recorded. Besides being of the utmost importance and value at unexpected times to families and individuals, these records are essential for the scientific control of sanitary affairs. Boards of health must know who is dying, where they are dying and what they are dying of In order to intelligently conduct disease prevention work. This information is given by vital statistics. The state board of health requests all cit izens to co-operate with physicians and j health officers in this important work j by seeing to it that correct records are ! made of the deaths, births and contag-! ious diseases occurring In their fami lies. Governor G. W. Carter, of Hawaii, ays: "Japan would fight the United States at the drop of a hat should the occasion arise, and you can take from me that Uncle Sam would know that It was more than a slight tickling at the ribs before he got through with the trouble." Extraordinary Attraction at ...Jackson Park Sunday, Sept. 29th Prof. Chas. A. Barnard and wife in their Double Balloon Ascension and Parachute Leap. A German dialect act is included, something that has not been on the program of late. This will be put on by Harry Foster, who is also an eccenrric dancer.
