EXPRESS AGENTS TO SOBMITJESTIMOIIY Indiana Railroad Commission Wants to Know.
FREE DELIVERY SERVICE. The local express agents of Marion, South Bend, Muneie, Indianapolis, Anderson and Lafayette have been subpoenaed to go to the office of the Indiana Railroad commission to give to the commission what information it desires relative to the free delivery of express packages. At this inquiry the commission will attempt to ascertain many hitherto obscure facts concerning the express business, as carried on by the several companiesthe capital of each company, the amount actually invested in the business, the real receipts and earnings, the Indiana end of he business, etc. It is proposed to make the inquiry as searching as possible. Some of the companies have showed a reluctance to give response to some of the pertinent queries asked in interrogatories sent out some weeks ago. It is thought that the hearing will bring out some facts that the answers them selves do not show clearly. SPENT AN ENJOYABLE DAY. John Wester Was Surprised on Birth day Anniversary. Fountain City, Ind., Sept. IS. A very enjoyable day was spent by num erous frienos and relatives at the beautiful and hospitable home of John Wesler. September 12, occasioned by his birthday anniversary. The event was nicely contrived by his wife, very much to his surprise. The dinner was fine and royally served, in keeping with the hospitality of the host and hostess. The afternoon was spent in a social way, the chief feature of entertainment was the appearance of three ladies attired in costume worn fifty and seventy years ago. Those present from away were Joseph Brown and wife, John Wright Johnston and wife, Henry Gifford and wife and daughter Ethel of Fountain City, James Parish and daughter of Creat and Mrs. Cora Polly of Glencarn. Mrs. Will Schull and baby and Virginia Wesler of Richmond. SCENE FROM "ARE At the Gennett 1 The Names of Tea. 1 We talk glibly about Pekoe, Bohea, etc., but few people have any idea of what these names signify. "Pekoe" in the dialect of Canton means "white hair," for the tea which bears this came is made from the youngest leaves, so young that the white down Is still on them. "Soochong" In the same dialect is a quite unpoetlc name. It merely signifies "small kind." "Flourishinj: spring" is the meaning of "Ilyson." "Kongo" signifies "labor." Much trouble and toil are expended in its preparation at Amoy, ami these are commemorated In its name. "Bohea" is called after a range of hills. -Portland (Ore.) Journal. To Clean Bronzes. ft Is not a good plan to clean bronzes, as the polish is very easily spoiled, but If necessary nothing Is better than cleaning them with water and ammonia, using a stiff brush like a nailbrush. Dry carefully after rinsing thoroughly. They should be carefully dusted every day with a soft cloth and a feather brush, and a little sweet oil may be rubbed on occasionally. Williams and Healy, One of Amusements "Are You a Mason?" Gennett. "Are You a Mason" is a good tonic for that "tired feeling" and the announcement that it is coming to town is the pleasant news. This famous farce is one of the most laughable pieces ever presented on the American stage. It has been played continuously in this country and In England ever since it was first presented in 1901. In Lon don alone it has been running for over three years and it ran for over 300 YOU A MASON?" Friday Nignt. nights at Wallack's theatre in New York. The play will be presented at the Gennett Friday night. Vaudeville at the Phillips. The Valadons, who are at the New Phillips this week in vaudeville, have a pleasing act as well as a risky one. Miss Valadon rides, without the least show of fear, a bicycle on a tight wire and her team mate rides a monocycle on a slack wire, doing a juggling stunt at the same time. There will be a special matineo for children on Saturday. This week's bill is a splendid specimen of refined vaudeville. About t-i- . . ..... t bin liquid will fill a common sized teaspoon; four tablespoons, or one-half gill, will fill a wineglass; four wineglasses will fill a pint measure, a common tumbler or a large coffee cup. Ten ordinary eggs weigh one pound. A tablespoon of salt weighs one ounce. ELECTION NOTICE.
