Games Wednesday. Richmond at Van Wert, Decatur at Bluffton. Kokomo at Portland. Richmond has opened a hard ser

ies of three games with Van Wert at

Van Wert. The Buckeyes have recently been strengthened by new material and at the present time are playing the most consistent ball of any team In the league, with the possible exception of Decatur. Van Wert took three straight games from the Jays at Portland and got out of town with their lives a remarkable event. The Buckeyes were ready to take on Richmond and they predict that the Quakers will be beaten three straight. Those Quakers of ours never perform according to done and it would be no great surprise if they did things to the Buckeyes. The double defeat Sunday made the fans loose confi

dence In the Quakers but a good showing by the team at Van Wert will promptly restore this confidence. The last time Decatur made It two out of three from us on our home grounds, It will be remembered, the Quakers went to Decatur and made It two out of three from the Commodores up there. Collin Joins Team. Collin, the new infielder, joined the team Monday and will get into the game at once, lie 13 expected to add great strength to the locals. Collin will probably be played at shortstop and Minzler shifted back to second

base, which Is really where the little

fellow should play. He made a remarkable good showing at this position while Morris was at shortstop. Gov Is a rattling good fielder but his

wing is not strong enough for a shortfielder. Schedule a Beauty. . That was a- corkin? fine schedule the magnates perpetrated on us at the Bluffton schedule meeting. It was evidently made in favor of Portland. The Jay3 now begin their third straight series at home. After this series they are away from home for three game? then they go back to their own happy hunting grounds for

nine successive games. Van Wert rather upset Manager Hunt's little game by givfng the Jays three good beatings. Fleming In First. Fleming works against Van Wert first and Wednesday King Cole, ruler of the icemen, will offer up his, frozen, delivery to the Buckeyes. This lad is as cool as they make them and he has all the ear marks of a comer. If Fleming gets away with his game it I Is probable that he will be repeated j

against Van Wert Thursday. Then there is a chance of Gene Moore joining the locals at Van Wert, in which event he will no doubt pitch one of the games. Hare to Sioux City. Rab Hare jumped Kokomo Monday to join the Sioux City Western league team. The loss of Haro will be severely felt by the Wildcats as Rab has been playing a sensational game for them. Hare will make good with

Sioux City as he is a fast, intelligent.

hard working player. His pal, John

ny Fisher, is pitching for Sioux City. Was Biggest Crowd. Sunday the biggest crowd of the season saw the Quakers drop two games. The paid attendance was near the 1,700 mark. This size crowd Is bigger.than most of the Central league teams draw on Sunday, despite the 3,000 and 4,000 attendances reported. There were over 400 paid admissions to the game last Saturday, and

this was the largest week day crowd of the season. "Richmond is certainly a good ball town," Manager Grant

of the South Bend team remarked.

Babylon Is Waiting.

Manager Babylon of the Qulgley & Babylon team is wondering why the manager of the Cambridge City Grays

has not yet accepted his challenge to

a series of three games for the semlprofesslonal championship of the county. Babylon will play on any reasonable terms suggested by the Cambridge City management. "My outfit can give. the Grays a worse trimming than New Madison handed out to them last Sunday," Babylon states. Hunter Gets Release. Pitcher Hunter, who was given a

trouncing in the second game Sunday by the Decatur sluggers, was given his release Monday afternoon. Hunter had no difficulty In finding another berth. As soon as he drew his blue slip Hunter telephoned to Manager Hunt of the Portland team, asking him if he could find a place for him with the Jays. Hunt told the youngster he could and ordered him to report at once, so Hunter left for Portland. He snows indications of making a good

twirler and may be a good man for the Portland outfit. The local pitching staff was too large and Hunter fell a victim of the pruning knife. When Moore reports other head3 will be sev

ered.

Emma Levin, the victim In the Paris trunk mystery, and her daughter. The Paris police now doubt the truth of the confession of Vera St. Leger Goold who is in a Paris jail, charged with the woman's murder. They think that Mrs. Violet Goold had much more to do with the murder than her husband says. The Goolds were arrested while traveling with a view to hiding the body which had been cut up and placed in a trunk.

Polk Canning Company Larger Than Ever. Ralph Polk of Greenwood, manager

of the Polk canning company of that place has forwarded friends in this city an excellent description of the "New Sunlight" canning establishment at Greenwood, which was but recently printed in "The Canner and Dried Fruit Packer." The article is an excellent description of the rise of the factory since the old concern burned to the ground several months ago. Mr. Polk and his wife, formerly Grace Porterfield, are well known in Richmond, this having been Mrs. Polk's former home.

the operator at Hagerstown to display the red light, and the high speed."

Signal Remained White. John Falck, conductor of the freiifht

train, testified that he coiud not get a wire about the wreck train leaving

Millvllle and after telling Operator Deeter to notify the operator at Nolans to hold him there, asked for the signal. lie stated also that the signal

remained white after he had given his engineer the order to pull out onto the main track. Falck says he has no

opinion as to the fault of the wreck. Harry Aiken, fireman on the freight, said the signal light at Hagerstown was white. Frank Crichet, engineer of the freight, said when he looked back from his engine the block was

white. He asserts as his opinion the failure to change the white block to red as the cause of the wreck. Acted Soon as Possible. Raymond Deeter, the ' operator in charge at Hagerstown when the wreck

occurred, had just relieved operator

Walker. He states while he was put

ting up signal lights he heard Walker tell Millvllle by wire that 72 would stay In the clear at Hagerstown. Dee

ter declares the book of rules instructs operators to hold the signal white until the rear of the departing train is

20O feet from the office. Deeter said

he was watching the freight leave and

had his hand on the lever to turn the block when he heard the wreck train

coming and he threw the lever, changing the block as soon as possible. Dee

ter says also because he had no report

from Millvllle, he presumed the extra

was still there.

Four Are at Fault.

In reporting his verdict Coroner Bramkamp sums up the evidence in the case and then renders the verdict rs follows: "I find further that the collision resulting in the wreck was due partly to misunderstanding and mistaken judgment on the part of certain of the railroad employes, partly to lack of familiarity with and strict observance of the official instructions to employes and to the unwarranted assumption of authority in the running of trains on the part of the same authorities. Those whom I find at fault and hold equally responsible are John Falck, Raymond Deeter, Frank Calkins and Harry Rogers."

Amusements

Buffalo Bill's Wild West. How human beings can be trained and drilled to such accuracy and simultaneousness of movement as the Devlin Zouaves in the Wild West exhibitions, is a puzzle. Their performance holds the observer in a constant strain of admiration and often a particularly

brilliant movement provokes a burst of applause. They rivet the attention of

the always great audiences from their

first appearance at the curtains until

pv-frv evolution of the company and

manipulation of the rifles is completed

and the last man has scaled the wall of

the miniature fort, then as "Old Glory

rises, with that movement comes a

burst of enthusiasm, that evinces the

appreciation of the audience. The Zou

aves will be seen here with Buffalo Bill

next Friday. j "The Hoosier Girl" Gennett.

Miss Kate Watson, who is said to be

one of the funniest women on tha stage today, will be at the Gennett next

Saturday, matinee and night, in her

successful three act rural comedy dra

ma, "The Hoosier Girl," and her humorous portrayal of Roxiana' Feabody

with a fund of wit and common sense concealed beneath the uncouth appearance of a backwoods child, who dresses in gingham pinafores, and who wears her hair in pig tails. Is said to be one that is funny in the extreme and there is a naturalness about the character which appeals to the heart and makes it one of the most Movable on the stage.
