Decatur, 9; Richmond, 5. Decatur, Aug. 15. The choice variety of "dinks", passed up to Decatur batsmen in the first inning of the game yesterday between Richmond and the home team, by one diminutive twirler, Nat Fleming, were responsible for the home team's victory Wednesday afternoon. Fleming was hit hard and clean for a total of six runs. Manager Jessup, after the fusilade had been stopped by the almost superhuman efforts of the Richmond players, gave Fleming transportation privileges to the bench. It was the second time the little star pitcher has been sent to the Btables by Decatur batsmen within the past week. Conner was substituted tcr Fleming in the second inning and he kept Decatur's hits scattered during the remainder of the game, with the one exception and that in the fourth inning when Decatur secured two runs. Conner breezed four men and allowed two walks. ... The game was an unusual one, Richmond trotting the entire nine Innings -without a break. The men played in the field in fancy fashion, cavorting like a bunch of National Leaguers.
Notwithstanding this fact, they lost. The hard hitting of Decatur did the work. It was a hard game for the
Quakers to lose, too. They pulled off three fancy double plays, one of which was made by Catcher Jessup unassisted. Fisher to Mlnzler; Morris to Minzler to HIcks were the two other hair raisers. Umpire Hicks joined the Quakers yesterday and was the star batsman of the day, securing three hits, one a two bagger, out of four times at bat. All doubt's as to the man's hitting ability were dispelled. He played his position at first base In excellent manner not making a wobble. Fisher Is in the box for the Quakers today and Decatur hopes to get revenge for the 1 to O defeat he gave them last week. The box score and summary of yesterday's game:
most spirited and interesting games
seen here thi3 year, Portland won from
Bluff ton in the seend of the series by
a score of 1 to 0. Neither side scored
until the ninth inning, when a single and a two-bagger, the first by Stewart
and the second by Durham, netted the only run of the game. Both teams put up great exhibitions of ball, the locals putting up an exceptionally sensational game, despite the three errors. Both Carmichael and Wagner pitched great ball, Wagner having the better of the contest. Score: R. H. E. Portland ..00000000 11 6 0 Bluffton . . 0 0 0 5 0 0 0 0 00 4 3 Umpire Thompson. Time 1:30. Saturday morning the Hoosier molders will again endeavor to better their record as ball players, in a game witht the Gaar molders. "Pat" Hannon, pitcher for the Gaar team, is being bragged up by his supporters as a very enterprising youngster, but the most of his experience has been gained only in "kid" teams in Fairview, or so say the Hoosiers and they stoutly affirm that the only playing that will be done will be by Jack Bertrand, who has so successfully pitched all previous games. Bertrand has proved his abilltty as a ball player and as a pitcher time and time after time, and the game is certain not to be a 'walk away" for the Gaars. The lineup follows: Hoosiers Lane, catch; Bertrand, pitch; Sample, short stop; Rothart, first base; Geo. Helmich, 2nd base; White, 3rd base; Hodapp, right field; Chestnut, center field; Busson, left field. Gaar's Kinsella, catch; Hannon, pitch; Schattell (capt) 1st base; Moelk, 2nd base; Sauers, 3rd base; Lantz, short stop; Schneider, left field; Brower. center field; Horr, right field; Ashenf elder, extra.

Jim Cameron departed for the East Wednesday night, leaving tears standing In the eyes of the Richmond base ball bugs. Cameron, by his steady playing, won a happy home In Kichmond this season. Friday, the time-being leaders of the I. O. league, Portland, will be in Richmond to take the measurement of local ball tossers. The "hitless wonders," as they are some times termed in Bugville, an eastern suburb of Richmond, will return home and will
be ready for the Jaybirds when they make their appearance on the athletic field Friday afternoon. Fleming probably will be sent to the slab by Manager Jessup as he has pitched but little in the past week, although making two attempts to last in the gameB with Decatur. Fleming has taken the measurement of the Portland players in neat fashion heretofore. Bad dreams have been prevading the minds of Richmond fans, as to the batting ability of one, Mr. Hicks, now first sacker for Richmond, erstwhile "His Umps" In the I. O. league. Hicks, by his phenomOnal record Wednesday at Decatur showed the fans that he is the "candy kid" with the stick as well as being able to hold down the initial sack in a very handy manner. Owing to the closeness in the I. O. league standing, Richmond and Portland being two of the contending factors for first place position, the three games at Athletic park, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, are expected to draw record breaking crowds

A Philadelphia man who has been traveling In the west says that pajamas are not popular articles of wearing apparel out there and cites an instance to prove his statement. While staying at a hotel In a medium sized town he sent a pair of rather gaily colored pajamas (his wife's choice) to a laundry. When they came back they wero starched so stiff they would stand alone, and each trousers leg was carefully pressed Into the most approved crease. Attached to the coat waif pinned a small slip of paper bearing the words: "To one lawn tennis suit, ." cents." Philadelphia Record.
