Local Automobilists Agree It Was the Proper Course To Pursue. NO ROAD FOR SPEEDWAY.

OFFICER SAYS THAT SUCH A PLAN SHOULD NOT EVEN BE CONSIDERED INSIDE THE CORPORATION LIMITS.

Local automobilists do not criticize the action of the police in arresting . the secretary of their club. Walker Land, for speeding on South Twelfth street. The concensus of opinion is that if Land were speeding he should have been punished, as it is dangerous to go over the streets of Richmond at the rate of speed with which Land is said to have been driving the Robbins car. A local officer of the automobile club states that not .under any circumstances should a street In Rich-

. mond be turned over for the benefit of the automobilists, as it is too dangerous to speed In the city. He said that automobilists at all times should fceep within the speed limit in town. If they wished to send their cars pyer the road at a greater rate of speed than was lawful, they should go to the country and even at that time should not speed their cars if

xne road were not absolutely clear. There are many sections of road surrounding Richmond which are easily accessible, where there would be no

objections registered, if the autolsts

drove their cars at great speed, and these stretches of road should be

Ought out

Aitnough not countenancing the

law's violations at the hands of the automobilists, this officer stated that the automobile drivers should not be descrimlnated against. He stated

that there was a law regulating the

speed of automobiles to fifteen miles an hour in town, while the interurbans were supposed to run twelve

miles an hour. Not once has he seen

an automobile go around a street car In the city of Richmond, he says, even though the machine was straining the speed limit law. If the automobilists are to be arrested for breaking the anti-speed ordinances, so should the street cars, was the opinion expressed by the officer.

New Castle, Ind., July 31 "I will

come back to New Castle this fall, and not in the custody of a sheriff," is the message written to a friend in this city by George Hazzard, now famous as the author of the history of Henry

county.

For many months Hazzard has not

been in this city. During his absence

his name has figured prominently in papers at the court house, containing

the words "forgery" and others

which are undesirable to the average citizen.

Hazzard was charged with forging

the name of Henry Brown, a Moore-

land banker to a contract to pay 250

for a picture and biography in Haz-

zard's history of Henry County. The

case was called at Rushville but Haz

zard failed to put in an appearance

after several extensions had been

granted. His Bond Forfeited. His bond was then declared forfeit

ed and a suit is now pending in the

Circuit Court against Charles Mouch, a manufacturer, who signed Hazzard's

bond for $500 to recover the amount.

j Hazzard was at that time in the East J and said he was coming back. But he did not. The nearest he got to Henry County was Logansport, when he took a roundabout course to get from the East to his old stamping grounds

in Tacoma, Wash., where he now is. He has been visited by Henry county people who made trips to the Northwest. There is no money available for the sheriff to go after Hazzard and his bondsman does not feel like putting up any more money. The action to recover the bond has not yet been set for trial, but will in all probability be called at the September term. Mean-
