FIVE HUNDRED HTHIES KADI Outlook Is Unusually Good for The Fair to Be Held , At Hagerstown.

SPEED RING IS POPULAR. bEMAND FOR EXHIBITION SPACE ; INDICATES THAT THE FAIR IS STEADILY GROWING IN FAVOR. Hagerstown, Ind., July 16. The eighteenth annual meeting of the Hagerstown fair begins next' Tuesday for a four days session. The agricultural features predominate and more than five hundred entries have been received and booked already. This is considered a remarkable condition for eo long before the fair opens. The "big display buildings are fairly well filled with every class of exhibits ex cept live stock and perishable stuff. Extensive additions have been made to various barns and exhibit booths to make room for the greater display to be presented thi3 year. Fancy stock of all kind3 will be seen In greater number and variety than ever before. Horses and cattle especially claiming much more space than heretofore. Speed Ring Popular. Notwithstanding the avowed pur pose of the fair Is to advance agriculture and kindred sciences, it is demonstrated from year to year that the speed ring is immensely popular with all classes of patrons. Three hours each day are devoted to racing and during that time practically all other attractions are laid aside. Some of the most famous horses in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky will compete for the big purses offered from day to day. That the fair is growing in popularity is shown by the steadily growing demand for exhibition space. It 13 so great this year that Secretary "Walker has simply had to reject numerous applications. The extensive grounds cool and shady with plenty of spring water, make it an ideal place for picnics. Many inquiries from autoists iat a distance ask whether machines nvlll be admitted. They will be welcomed and attendants employed by the Fair board will be on hand to "watch the machines In the absence of the owners. Every precaution has been taken to make the fair safe, sane and Instructive. HOW IT SPREADS. The first package of Dr. Leonhardt's Hem-Roid (the Infallible Pile cure) that was put out went to a small town In Nebraska. "It cured a case of Tiles that was considered hopeless. The news spread, and the demand prompted Dr. J. S. Leonhardt, of Lincoln, Neb., the discoverer, to prepare It for general use. Now it is being sent to all parts of the world. It will cure any case of Piles. $1.00, with absolute guarantee. Leo II. Fihe, Richmond, or The Dr. Leonhardt Co., Niagara Falls, N. Y. THE REV. Many a plain woman who could never serve as an artist's model, possesses those rare qualities that all the world admires: neatness, clear eyes, clean smooth" skin and that sprlghtliness of step and action that accompany good health. A physically weak woman is never attractive, not even to herself. Electric Bitters restore weak women, give strong nerves, bright eyes, smooth, velvety skin, beautiful complexion. Guaranteed at A. G. The various nations of the earth have their diHerent legends or myths concerning the creation. That of the Scandinavian countries is particularly interesting. According to the myth, Odin, VIII and Ye, sons of the giant and giantess Bor and Beltsa. killed Ymir and from his body formed the heavens and the earth. Of his blood they made the seas and impassable oceans which sur round the earth. Of his bones they made the mountains, using his teeth and the splinters to make the stones and pebbles. From his inverted skull they formed the heavens, and of his brains they formed the 'clouds. His hair became plants and trees when given a chance- to. take root In the new warm soil, and of his eyebrows they made a wall of defense around MIdgard (Eden), which was the central place of abode of men. When these miracles had all been performed to suit Odin, who was the chief god, the three brothers took the sparks of fire which rained down from the burning world Musphelheim and, throwing them over the face of heaven, made the sun, moon and stars. They keep the blaze going all night and at dawn the ground is an inch or two deep with May flies, fire flies, moths little creatures that flew out of the darkness into those clear and gem-like flames, fluttered forth again in agony, fell and died. TWILIGHT MEETINGS HELDJT LIBERTY New Plan Inaugurated by the Presbyterian Churches. OTHERS MAY JOIN WITH IT.

Liberty, Ind., July 16 The congregation of the Presbyterian church of this city has inaugurated a series of "twilight meetings" for Sunday even ings, the first one of which was held last Sunday evening on the lawn at the residence of Dr. George E. Steven son. The regular church program was observed, the services being under the direction of the pastor, Rev. S. Wilbur Hufferd. It is the intention to conduct these open air services each Sunday evening that the weather will permit during the summer at some one of the many beautiful lawns which adorn this little city, and It is probable that the Methodist and Christian church congregations will join their Presbyterian brethren and conduct the services as a series of union meetings, the pastors of the various denominations alternating with the sermons. Amusements Vaudeville at the Phillips. Although a rattling good bill was expected by patrons of the New Phillips this week, it must be admitted that they were most agreeably surprised by the very high quality of the program that greeted them on Monday afternoon and night. It was found to surpass in practically every respect all the offerings of recent weeks and to be live from start to finish. Of course there is special interest in the appearance of John A. West, the musical brownie, who puts on a stunt entirely new to patrons or this house. His appearance in a brownie costume sets the audience wild and his subsequent attempts to entertain are highly successful. Under all his setting of comedy and nonsense it is evident that West is a real musician. One of the pretty effects was secured when a shower of old hats was thrown upon the stage and groping among these hats West played a solo on bells fastened to various of them. Another feature that "gets them going" is the singing wolf, Siberian, who howls an accompaniment to the playing of West. West is worth the money but then there is besides the Three Hylands, who receive a welcome cordial enough to satisfy the most exacting and especially so for the work of Master Hyland, manipulator of the baton; G. H. Henella. In feats of magic and in the wonderful novelty illusion, "Rosa, the singing head"; John Goss, comedy trick bone soloist, whose work would be very hard to excel; the illustrated song, "If the Man in the Moon Were a Coon," by Cal Lankert and the cameragraph showing two films of a very interesting nature. This week's bill should get big business. Repertoire at the Gennett. If the management of the Cutter stock company had been arranging the thing just to suit themselves, it is probable they would not have cared for a more auspicious opening than was given their second week's engagement at the Gennett, Monday night, when they presented "The Red Cross Nurse," to a very large and appreciative audience. The plan of admitting ladies free each Monday night is being followed with success and approval. The offering of Monday night again gave the company ample opportunity to display its ability to entertain and the play was acceptably put on in every way acting, stage setting and costumes, with specialties added that relieved all waits between acts. The company will present "The Red Cross Nurse" again tonight and for the Wednesday matinee, and on Wednesday and Thursday nights, the nM-tfmp favorite. "Dora Thome" and will conclude the week with Friday and Saturday night and Saturday matinf nerformances of "Deadwood " w M Dick." a revised version of this noted production, with the blood, and thun der eliminated. The company has made an enticing offer to any couple ttiat will consent to be married on the stage and for Friday night is again offering $5 for the best act put on by an amateur. As the company gives but two matinees a week it is expect ed the audiences both Wednesday and Saturday afternoon will be to the full capacity of the house.
