RAINFALL INTERFERES WITH WHEAT HARVEST
It Has Not Been Possible . Cut Grain. to ARE MANY GOOD FIELDS. This is the week that Wayne county farmers had set aside to harvest their wheat crop, but the rain has made it impossible to go into the fields with rhe harvesting machines. The wheat crop in this county Is at least three weeks late now, for the grain is ordinarily gathered the last week In June. The farmer has invariably had his wheat crcpput away in time to attend the Fourth of July celebration. There are many wheat fields in Wayne county that are ready to cut this week, but the July storm engagement is now being played and is interfering with the work and endangers the crop. It was supposed early in the spring when winter refused to let loose its hold on affairs, that the wheat crop would be a complete failure, but there are many good fields scattered throughout the county. TAKE THE POSTMASTER'S WORD FOR IT. Mr. F. M. Hamilton, postmaster at Cherryvale, Ind., keeps also a stock of general merchandise and patent medicines. He says: "Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy is standard here in its line. It never fails to give satisfaction and we could hardly afford to be without it." For sale by A. G. Luken & Co. One of the peculiar phenomena of the Arctic regions is "sea smoke." Explorers tell of a steam as if from a boiling kettle which rises from the water when the temperature is 15 degreed below zero. At 40 degrees the snow and human bodies emit this vapor, which changes into icy particles which fill the air and make a light noise like the rustle of silk. At 40 degrees tree trunks burst with a loud report, rocks break up and streams of smoking water flow from great cracks in the earth's surface, knives break in cutting butter and lighted cigars go out by contact with the ice upon the beard.
