In reply the commission s iys: "As to the matter of a farther effort on the part of the Commercial club, there seems to be nothing farther you can do at the present time. The order provided for the railroad companies to at once jrnceed to construct the connecting switch, This, of course, contemplates early action on the part, of the railroads, and wc are again calling their attention to the necessity for immediate action." FOOLING A CAMEL. How the Arabs Let the Animal Exhaust Its Bad Temper. You all have heard stories about the camel bow patient and useful he is on long, hot Journeys, so that be is often called the "ship of the desert." But he has one very bad fault. lie likes to "pay back," and if his driver has injured him in any way he will not rest till he has returned the injury. The Arabs, who wander about the deserts and so use the camel a great deal, know about this fault of his and have a queer way of keeping themselves from- getting hurt. "When a driver has made his camel angry, he first runs away out of sight. Then, choosing a place where the camel will soon pass, he throws down some of his clothes and fixes them so that the heap will look like a sleeping man. Pretty soon along comes the camel and sees the heap. Thinking to himself, "Now I've got him," he pounces on the clothes, shakes them around and tramplos all over them. After he Is tired of this and has turned away the driver can reappear and ride him away without harm. Poor silly camel! He has been lu what we call "a blind rage," so angry that he can't tell th- difference between a man and a heap of clothes.--Mayflower. . 3Ty doctor recommends Europe. SAYS THE TALK HAS HO HEALJOUKDATION Clarence H. Mackay on Charge Of No Competition.
AN ACTION IN NEW YORK. Clarence H. Mackay, president of the Postal Telegraph Cable Company when asked in regard to the proceedings which were instituted by the attorney general of the state of New York against the Postal Telegraph Cable Company and the Western Union Telegraph Company for ceasing to compete, says: "If two companies ever competed in the United States, these two companies are competing and always have been. At times competition is even fierce and bitter. Every merchant and manufacturer In the United States, wherever we reach, will bear witness to the truth of this statement. "We are the only company that did ever really compete with the Western Union and succeeded in doing so. Other companies have competed only to be bought out and none of them ever paid a dividend In opposition to the Western Union. We are extending our system all the time and are taking business away from the Western Union. All this talk about the two companies working in harmony is nonsense."
