THE SUPPER TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN ON THE EVENING OF THE FOURTH HAS ALSO BEEN POSTPONED.

White water,. Ind., June 29. Owing to the case of diphtheria in the family of Edgar Jordan and the possibility of other cases, it has been deemed advisable to close the churches tomorrow. There ; will be no Sunday school 1 or other church services. While it is not probable that any new cases will develop, yet there "is a feeling that there might.be, , and the officials of the churches have taken thi3 action. The supper to be given the evening of the Fourth, by the young ladies of the M. E. church, has been postponed. There will be no celebration on that evening as planned, and the speakers for the occasion have all been notified of the existing conditions and the precautions that are being taken in the matter. The citizens are very grateful to those who had agreed to deliver addresses, and regret very much that the conditions are such that the program cannot be carried out. A strict quarantine has been placed around the Jordan residence, and every possible precaution taken to prevent any contagion. The child affected Is somewhat better at this time and the indications point to a speedy recovery. cmkge HAS GIVEN HIS TESTIMONIAL Tells Londoners That Rooseveltls the Greatest President Ever. CITES OUR PROSPERITY. AS FOR DECLINE IN VALUES, IT IS A GOOD THING PICKS HARVEY'S RECENT NEW YORK SPEECH TO PIECES. London, June 20. Andrew Carnegie, in an interview dealing with G. B. M. Harvey's statement in a speech at the recent Jefferson Society banquet, in New York, that President Roosevelt's popularity in Europe was due to the fact that his policy had driven from France, Germany and Great Britain all thoughts of American industrial and financial rivalry, said: "These countries and their governments are not as savage to gloat over the misfortunes of other lands. No nation can prosper, and no nation can suffer reverse without Great Britain suffering also. The same applies to France and Germany. "It is a surprising commentary on Mr. Harvey's charge that under President Roosevelt's administration our country has enjoyed the greatest season of material prosperity ever known." Mr. Carnegie thinks the present decline in values In the United States is nothing serious; that it is In every respect a wholesome check, and that the President's declared intention to regu late corporations is only to a trifling' extent a factor in the decline. He saysPresident Roosevelt is truly conservative man who remedies abuses. He is tne best friend of the railroads auu to far from lowering the value of bonds and shares, will enhance their value and give to the European Investor an eiement of security hitherto lacking.
