IT IS THE UNANIMOUS OPINION THAT THE PROJECT SHOULD BE CARRIED TO COMPLETION A MEETING FRIDAY NIGHT.
IT the agitation in favor of converting the river bottoms Into what will be known as Riverside park is dead and ready for burial, there was no evidence of thi3 fact at the meeting of the West Side Improvement associa ton held Friday night in the Baxter school. The meeting was largely attended and Charles Francisco, chairman of the park committee, stated that the committee has been working on new plans for the realization of the park since it was announced some time ago that 'the
acbool board, under no consideration, could stand a portion of the expense in the construction of Riverside and the playgrounds. It is the unanimous opinion of the association that the park proposition should be carried to the finish and proper and " forcefut pressure be brought to bear upon the city officials to consider the park more favorably. The question now confronting the park committee, is to so arrange the
plans as to make them favorable for
the city to buy ihe-land -adjoining the Tiver bottom that, the park may be realized. This work, is now being done by the committee of the West Side association, and . It . Is .highly probable that within the course of the next few weeks an entirely, new. scheme for the purchase of .the ground and conversion of the jiresent. unsightly river bottoms into a. beautiful park, will be presented to the city fathers.

A man who is in perfect health, so he can do an honest day's work when necessary, has much for which he should be thankful. Mr. L. C. Rodgers, of Branchton, Pa., writes that he was not only unable to work, but he couldn't stoop over to tie his own shoes. Six bottles of Foley's Kidney Cure made a new man of him. WOULD HOLD DOWN GARDEN PEDDLERS
Market Master Walterman Thinks Change Should Be Made in Ordinance.
FROM 9 TO 10 O'CLOCK.
HE WOULD REDUCE THE TIME FOR GOING ABOUT THE CITY TO THE DISADVANTAGE OF BOOTH HOLDERS. If the wishes of .Market Master Walterman are carried out, the city council will in the near future frame an ordinance prohibiting small garden peddlers from circulating in the city before ten . o'clock on market mornings. The ordinance as it stands at present rules that no small truck dealers shall circulate in the city before nine o'clock and this is too early, according to the statements of the market master. Mr. Walterman is of the opinion that if the ordinance were changed to read ten o'clock, instead of nine, it would greatly enhance the value of the south side and east end markets and at tho same time would protect those garders who have paid a good price for booth space. In many instances these small gardeners go among the people and cut rates to cinch the trade from the men who are on the market, and Mr. Walterman is of the opinion that this is unjust to those men to whom the city is offering' inducements to locate at the market house. Has Been Discontent. There has been some . discontent among the gardeners and dealers who have been selling on the local market in the past years, owing to the increased price in rentals for reservations at the new south side market this year. These complaints are made, however, by those not considering the great improvements that have been made in the market house and the increased facilities offered by the city to them over those of last year. The booths are selling rapidly and all will be sold, it is thought , within the course of the next few days. Uptodate the city has realized $7t off the sale of market booths, which is an exceptionally good record. The south side market is offering all manner of good things to the public today. The booths are attractive in the extreme. In the vegetable lin-?, home grown peas, cauliflower, cucumbers, lettuce, onions radishes and strawberries are offered. Chickens and meats know no end and a large crowd has been on the market during the entire day. A record breaker is expected tonight. At the east eud market one farmer is offering thirteen different kinds of strawberries for sale. They are lucious and large and he was awarded a liberal patronage during the day. The strawberry season will close next week, having been in full blast fcr about three weeks. The strawberries at no time this year have been a lucious as ia the past seasons. ,
TROUBLE IH SIGHT OVER PROVISIONS SCHOOL BOOK LAW (Continued From Page One.)
books for the county schools, stated that its action depends largely ' upon the action taken by other companies in
regard to cancelling their contracts at the present time. All other companies, including the Indiana School Book company, of Indianapolis, Ginn and Co.. of Chicago, D. C. Heath and Co., of Chicago, MacMillan and Co., of Chicago, Benj. H. Sanborn and Co., of Chicago, Silver. Burdette and Co., of Chicago, and Longmanns, Green and
Co. of New York, have absolutely refused to cancel their school contracts
for books and abide by the Indiana
law until the full time of the school
book contract expires.
As the situation stands at the pres
ent time .therefore. Wayne county people will be handicapped materially in securing their school books for the next few years. Against Indiana Law. The book publishers are strongly
against the Indiana law as it stands, and will fight it to the bitter end it is said. It is thought locally that a few of the school book publishers refuse to recognize the present law hoping that before their contracts expire, the Indiana state legislature will take some action on the matter, which will essentially be a repeal of the present school book rulings. County Superintendent Jordan, since he was unsuccessful in getting the various book concerns to cancel their contracts in this county, is filling out his regular requisitions for next Year's books and under the provisions of the old contracts. These will be handled by the trustees next j-ear, but from that time on the county dealers will handle a portion of school books. The trustees were also very desirous of getting the contracts cancelled as they then could have turned the work of handling the books to the county dealer, and would not have had to do this work in connection with their other duties.
