PLEASING COMMENT ON REIDSTON FARM Western Horseman Says Nice Things of It.
Indications are that Athletic park will be filled up this afternoon with the banner crowd of the season. The weather man promises a real hot, ideal base ball day and there will be hundreds of people in the city from all over this part of the country. There will be a big Knights of Pythias parade in the afternoon and on this account Manager Jessup has arranged not to call the game until 3:30 o'clock a half hour later than the Sunday games have been cal'ed. The Cincinnati Harlems come touted as one of the strongest teams in that hot bed of base ball Cincinnati. Moore and Jessup vll be tlie local battery and a large part of the local fans will have their first opportunity of seeing Jessup's latest acquisition to his pitching staff at work. Moore is ?. star and his -pitching will be a revelation to the local fans. lie appears to be satisfied with Richmond and will probably not return to the South Bend team of the Central league. The above schedule of games has been arranged by Manager Jessup for the locals at home and abroad. It is a particularly good schedule, all of the attractions being fast outfits able to give the Quakers a run for their money. The hardest game on the schedule will be with the Springfield
Central league team, which will be played at Athletic park next Thursday. Springfield at the present time Is leading the Central League, race and is traveling along at a clip which all the teams with the exception of Wheeling find hard to keep up with. Tuesday of this week the locals and the Quigley & Babylon team will play an exhibition game for the benefit of Roy Shattell, the fast little player who had his collar bone broken recently. Roy's friends will be out en-niasse.

farm as a country home and his pleas
ure is in making it as attractive as possible, stocking it with light harness horses of the best and most fash
ionable breeding. He has twelve
standard registered mares, a number of good yearlings, two and three-year-
i olds, by such sires as Anderson
Wilkes, Directly, Winks and Walter Winans. Sir Alcryon heads his stud and the youngsters by him are individually good. Mr. Dougan has had a large force of men at work building a half-mile track, enlarging his present stables and building a new blacksmith shop. He will forego the pleasure of a European trip this year in order to complete his building and other arrangements for the comfortable housing of his stock for the winter. Billy Barton will train and look after the interests of his speed department. Barton has the reputation of being one of the best trainers in Eastern Indiana and will undoubtedly have his usual success with the Dougan youngsters. -

San Francisco, June 15. The u;-e of acetylene searchlights by the United
! State3 Geodetic Survey, in connection
with the resurvey of California since the earthnuake, is one of considerable public interest as demonstrating the advantages of acetylene apparatus in the finest scientific work. The object of this work is to determine just how much of the earth crust about San Francisco was displaced during the quake of a year ago. For flashirg signals during the day time the heliograph is ised whenever the sun shines and at night acetylene searchlights are employed. It . has been found that by means of acetylene the signals can be flashed as far as 60 miles, and that it is common night after night to cast them over distances ranging from SO to 60 miles.
