St. BRAGGS PLAY PART IN THIEF CAPTURE Mrs. Walter Bragg Was First To Suspicion That Something Was Wrong. MEN WERE NICELY WORKED HELD AT FOUNTAIN CITY ON VARIOUS PRETEXES UNTIL THE OFFICERS CAME UP FROM RICHMOND. Fountain City, Ind., June 15. The capturing of the horse thieves who stole a horse and rig from a man near Muncie is largely due to Walter Bragg and wife west of this city. The thieves had been trying to sell their stolen horse and rig at every farm house they had come to. but not until they came to Bragg's did any one suspicion the outfit had been stolen. They offered to sell the rig for $10 and Mr. Bragg said he would take it. but when he went to get the money his wife said that was too cheap and that something must be wrong. Mr. Bragg on a pretense of not having as much money as he had thought, told the men he could not buy the rig. The thieves then moved over east of town to see a colored man named Perkins, whom one of the thieves knew. Meanwhile Mr. Bragg came to town and got Frank Britton, an experienced horse buyer, and went over to Mr. Perkins" house and worketl the gag of wanting to buy the horse, and still the thieves did not suspicion anything.. They asked $145 for the whole eui fit, horse, harness and buggy, but Mr. Britton said he would only give $125., which they quickly accepted, but Mr. Britton had accidentally left his checkbook at town, but they would all go toi town and be would give them a check. And they still suspicioned nothing. Teague Bush, meanwhile had telephoned to Chief of Police Bailey and asked if such parties were wanted and if so to come at once. Britton and Bragg took tb.cm down to Smith's livery barn to put the horse up for Britton. Just as they got the horse put up and Mr. Britton was running the rig into place, 1 tally and Officer Vogelsong appeared n the stent and st-eia? Britton vith tiie rig. arrested him. He was evidently not try writ acquainted with the description of the thieves. As Britton and Bragg had them nicely trapped, the officers easily took tbrm and aft.pr dinner drove them to Richmond to jaiL
