Large patronage is characterizing the week in vaudeville at the New Phillips, and it is deserved as the bill is one of a pleasing nature and in addition there is increased interest because of the long period througa which repertoire replaced vaudeville. was a free will offering. Seventyfive tons of stone screenings were hauled from the freight cars at Centerville to the Bryan cemetery by twentythree teams, without any charges from the owners, and a force of men spread the screenings on the driveway also without charge. The screenings were obtained from the Reinheimer Bros, of New Paris, Ohio. Mr. Tern pie has charge of the cemetery grounds and is making much improvement iu the appearance of the place. .. A Vicious Duel. Nowadays If two Frenchmen feel that they have been insulted they arrange for a kind of picnic party in the early morning with as a sort of second thought a pair of rapiers for the inflicting of the scratch that is to satisfy honor. This function is called a duel. But in the old days duels were of a much sterner nature, and the most terrible one fought at any time in Paris was that between Colonel D., an old Bonapartist officer, and M. de G. of the Guards du Corps, a mere youth, but of herculean strength. The two men, lashed together so as to leave their right arms free, were armed with short knives, placed in a hackney coach and driven at a tearing gallop around the Place de la Concorde. They were taken out of the coach dead. The colonel had eighteen stabs, the youth only four, but one of these had pierced his heart. Chicago passengers using C, C. & L. trains land at 12th st. Everywhere in the old world the wheels of wagons and carriages are two or three times as heavy as those on corresponding vehicles in America and so appear clumsy and cumbersome to us. The explanation of the difference is that our wheels are made of hickory, a wood unknown abroad, which supplies the requisite strength in smaller mass. Travel Magazine. A Matter of Economy. There are hundreds ot thousands of people all ovor this blesMt country of ours who have been cured of obstinate, chronic diseases thronsrh th t.so of Dr. Pierce's Medicines and it is only natural that such people should rie iipnt speak their sentiments pretty freely wten Dr. Pierce and his medicines ara iajusUy attacked. These grateful patients of Dr. Pierce are to be found in almost evct hamlet and country village, and in t farmhouses and mechanics' cottages In uvery nook and corner of this great country. Common gratitude prompts such people to stand up and defend Dr. Piwc and his medicines against unjust and malicious attacks. WHAT DO THEY CURE ? Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription is not advertised as a "Cure All " but admirably fulfills a singleness of purpose. !eing a superior and most positive remedy for one rlass of diseases only those easily recognized weaknesses, derangements, irregularities and painful disorders peculiar to women. It is a powerful, yet gently acting, invigorating, tonic and strengthening nervine. For weak, worn-out, over-worked women no matter what has caused ! the break-down, whether it be from foo frequent bearing of children or frcus much worry, care, or over exertion of nay Kind, "Favorite Prescription" will be found most efficient in building np the strength, regulating all the womanly functions, banishing pain and bringing about a regular and healthy, vigorous condition of the whole femafe system. Thus It corrects prolapsus, or falling of womb, retroversion, anteversion and other displacements of the female pelvic orsans, due to weakness or over exertion, lifting or fatiguing over-work. In shon it makes weak women strong and sick women well. As to Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery it has a very large range of application, yet it is by no means recom mended as a "Cure-All." It possesses marvelous alterative, or blood cleansing, properties and is at the same time a most invigorating tonic, or strength giver. It exerts a specific, cleansing, soothing and healing effect upon all the lining mucous membranes of the system; hence, its great curative value in'all catarrhal affections, do matter where located.
