Did ycru ever hear the story. Of the Chicks who tried to get Away from rowdy paths' to those Of Polished Etiquette? - ... They read the Social columns In the Sunday Papers, and Were fired with an ambition great, To do things sleek and grand. But pretty soon they realized Such gawky country Jays Should have a Tutor who was up ' In tip-top Social ways. And so they chipped in, one and all, And got a Parrot gay, Who started in to teach them how To act and what to say.
And Goodness, such a difference ! They'd bravely bow and scrape; They'd "After you, my dear,'.' and learned Society's Red Tape. They learned the Two Step, Waltz and Glide, And how to give a Tea; ; On scented -stationery wrote With an B. S."V. P. Things went so charmingly that soon The Parrot gave a spread, To let them air their Social stunts And show how they were bred. 'Twas simply great! A grand success! And surely a delight To watch those well-bred Chickens All so courtly and polite.
And then, alasl A great, fat t7ora Crawled out to look around; A Bantam chanced to see hlci And snapped him from tho gniuncL Then, dear! Oh, dearl Oh, such a foss! The Chickens every one Forgot the manners they had learnea
And started on the run. They chased the Worm, they pecked and pushed,
They cackled, crowed and squalled ; They acted so like Hoodlums that The Parrot wept and bawled. - For One is bound to show, my , Dears, Just what One is, in spite 01 all One's fancy tucks and frills And polish fine and bright. J. J..IZOBA.
