Is a turtle a wild animal? This question was a subject of a hot discussion among several attorneys at
the circuit court. It came up through an amusing incident.
"Tessie", the monster turtle "was
the ruler of the pond at the hospital i
grounds until its domain was stolen.
Tessie" is now the property of Frank
Egly, a saloon keeper, and it looks as
though the big fellow is doomed for
the soup. It is claimed that some per
son after the pond had been let out j
captured "Tessie" and disposed of j hpr tr Ffflv One of thf. hnsnitai nffi- !
cials desired to return the turtle to the hospital and offered Egly $1.2j
for her. The offer was turned down.
f The question now is can the owner
of a wild animal which, escapes cap tivity reclaim it? Judge Fox main
tains that if the owner can establish
the identity of the animal he can re
claim it, John F. Robbins takes the opposite view. He is of the opinion
that a wild animal which escapes cap
tivity, and he thinks "Tessie went ou
of the pond through the sluice in the
bank, is no longer the chattel of its
original owner and becomes the property of whoever obtains it after it has
escaped from captivity."
Prosecutor Jessup states that "Tes
sie," is not a wild animal. He states
that it has been thoroughly domesti
cated through its long residence in the
pond, and that it regularly appeared each day to be fed by one of Colonel Miller's employes during the time the pond was owned by Mr. Miller, and since then "Tessie" has been fed by
one of the attaches of the hospital.

Two Anecdotes of Beau Nash. UlKm his first going to Bath Mr. Quin, the actor, found himself very extravagantly charged for eatables and drinkables, as well as for washing nd lodging. At the end of the first week he took aside Beau Nash, the master of ceremonies, vrho had recommended Bath as being the cheapest place in England for a man of taste and a boa vivant. Nash, who loved bis joke and knew that Quin loved a pun as well as himself, replied, "They have acted by you upon truly Christian principle?," "How so?" queried Quin. Why," resumed Nash, "you were a stranger, and they took you in." "Aye, but." replied Quin, "they have fleeced me instead of clothing me." A few nights after Nash was in company with Quin when lie. was in. one of his satirical moods and was taking off most of those present in the rooms. Nash, expecting to Le the next, got up and was oa the point of retiring when Quin asked him why he was going so soon. "In order to save you, the trouble of taking me off, I think it is best to take myself off," quietly replied the master of the ceremonies. Chamber'
"I am the wife of a minister. About
three years ago a warm friend, an exemplary mother and the conscientious wife of a minister, asked me if I had ever tried giving up coffee and using
Postum Food coffee. I had been tell
ing her of my excessive nervousness and-ill health. She said: 'We drink nothing else for breakfast but Pos
tum, and it is a delight" and comfort
to have something that we do not have to refuse the children when they ask
for it. "I was surprised that she would
permit the children to drink even the food coffee, but she explained that it
was a most healthful beverage and
that the children thrived on it. A very little thought convinced me that
for brain work, one should have food and the very best, of food. "My first trial of Postum was a failure. The maid of all work brought it to the table lukewarm, weak, and altogether lacking in character. We were in despair, bit decided on one more trial. At the second trial we faithfully followed the-directions, used four teaspoonfuls to the pint of water let it boil full fifteen minutes after the real boiling began, and .served, it with rich cream. It was delicious and we were all won. "I have since sung the praises of Postum Food Coffee on many, many occasions and have induced numbers of frienda to abandon coffee and use Postum. with remarkable results. The wift of a college professor said to nie a short time ago that nothing had ever produced so marked a change in her husband's health as the leaving off of coffee and the use of Postum in its place."
