and everything was reported to be in

readiness for the big convention. An interesting fight for the presi dency of the organization is promised

A number of candidates are in the

The contest, however, is of a friendly

nature. The election this year is considered more important than ever

before because of the additional num

that traveled over the state booming

the organization.

The executive committee has been

working unceasingly for the last month and has all details of the big

event well in hand. The applications for accommodations received from

posts throughout the state indicate

that an unusually large number of del

2,500. The entire membership of Post O has been delegated as a reception committee. A band has been engaged to meet incoming trains and escort the delegates to the Grand hotel. Here they will receive badges and be assigned to their various places of accommodation.

All Hotels Reserved. All the hotels in the city have reserved every available space for the occasion. Notices are posted conspicuously stating that all accommodations have been reserved for the T. P. A.'s on Friday and Saturday. Many citizens have tendered their homes to the use of the reception committee should the crowd exceed the hotel accommodations. The Elks home will be thrown open for the reception of the women

visitors to the convention. A large reception committee of women has been appointed for each day to provide entertainment for the visitors.

! The Elks Euchre club and the rnui sicnl committee of the Elks have arranged a special program for each day. A trolley tour of the city will I he afforded the women on Saturday, j The Union Traction company has artanged for special car service during

the two days of the convention, and will provide ample accommodations for the transportation of all visitors to and from the city. The Elks' Walking club has received new uniforms, and will participate in the grand parade to be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. The merchants of the city have begun decorating their places of business for the event, and by the time the visitors begin to arrive Friday morning the business section of the city will present a gala day appearance. The police are busily engaged in an effort to locate the person or persons who stole the pond at the Reid hospital grounds late Tuesday night. A half day's search In the north end

of town Wednesday failed to reveal who the act was committed by. The police state that about midnight Tuesday some one dug a ditch through the south bank of the pond and when the sun rose "Wednesday morning nearly all the water in the pond had been emptied into the river. The pond was stocked with various kind of fish, from big four pound bass to " twenty-five pound carp and tiny gold fish. Hundreds of pounds of fish were stolen by the thieves and those which were not taken died from the lack of their native element. This robbery is beyond doubt the most unique one ever reported to the police. When the hospital site was the home of Col. J. F. Miller he took great interest in fish culture. He had the pond made and an artificial trout stream emptied into it. This stream and the pond Col. Miller stocked with valuable fresh water game fish. Occasionally Col. Miller fished in these preserves but he hardly ever molested his finny friends and as

a consequence the pond was stocked with hundreds of them. "We have not the slightest idea as to who stole the pond", remarked

John L. Rupe of the hospital board

of trustees. "The only thing the

thieves left was a few dead fish and the bottom of the pond." "We found evidences of several fish dinners in our search about the north end of town for tha thieves, but failed to get a clue as to the persons responsible for these repasts," stated Sergeant McManus.
