MEETING TRANSACTS . IMPORTANT BUSINESS Preble County Agricultural So ciety Acts. TO REPAIR THE BUILDINGS. Eaton, O., May 13. The members of the Preble County Agricultural society held a meeting here Friday. The luos important business transacted was that of the purchase of a great deal of advertising matter for the fair. The board distributed the advertising matter among several firms. There was much talk concerninng the advisability of making an extension to the amphitheater and this will probably be done. The executive committee was authorized to make all the usual necessary repairs on the buildings and grounds. TO KEEP YOUNG. Lessen Your Food Continually as You Grow Older. What man or woman, growing old; would not give a fortune for the renewal of youth? With a little care they might have kept it for ten or a dozen years longer, but its value was not realized until too late, says Dr. Cohen, the noted London specialist. Up to the age of twenty-three or twenty-five in the case of men and eighteen or twenty in women, the framework of the body is being formed, and the diet should be generous. After the thirtieth year has been passed it is no longer necessary to eat to make more tissues, but only to preserve equilibrium of weight and strength. Yet at that time eating is a pleasure highly appreciated. Therefore most men and women eat too much, and this Is the time of life when indiscretions in diet produce disease with especial frequency. Do not eat heavy suppers. Drink little or no alcohol. Avoid rich meats and pastry. Do not grow fat by eating too much. Fat people seldom reach a good old age. The youthful old man is lean. Lessen your food continually as you grow older. Overeating produces all the diseases that make one old. Underfeeding shortens life. Just enough and a trifle over Is the Ideal. Sweet Potato Pie. Take several sweet potatoes, and when they have boiled themselves ten der peel and slice them. Line the bottom and sides of a deep dish with crustthe dish must be fully three Inches in depth and upon this arrange a layer of the potatoes, buttering them liberally, sugaring them freely and sprinkling them with nutmeg. Add next a layer of very thin slices of dough, sprinkle with hot water, then follow with another layer of sliced potatoes and repeat until the pan is full. The top crust follows, and the pie must then be baked for an hour or more. Miles Bradford in Bohemian Magazine. Euphemisms For Death. "Decease" is now a regular form of word for death. But it began as a gentle euphemism, "decessus (departure) seeming much less harsh to the Romans than "mors." All languages abound in euphemisms of the kind, which go back to a superstitious reluctance to mention death plainly that gradually passed into a kindly desire to soften the idea. "Passed away, "departed," "gone," "expire" (breathe out), "no more," "demise" and even "the late" are expressions of this nature. Most striking of all is the Roman euphemism for "he is dead, "visit" (he has lived). An Artificial World. The mingled feelings of admiration and skepticism with which we gazed upon the stuffed animals in the toy shops of our youth we still experience In the society of many of the human animals we meet later in life. The more we admire the mere do w-e mistrust, while there is nothing of which we are more convinced than that everything is unreal, from the complex Ion of .our friends to the genius of a great writer. Some of our readers may believe that meat is better than wheat because more expensive. Great food authorities prove this is not so. Scientists agree wheat is the only food which contains every element required for .the growth, development and vigor cf mankind from babyhood to old age. Besides, the economy of wheat as food is something which must not be overlooked. Humboldt demonstrates that if a given amount of land is required to produce meat-food (such as cattle, sheep, etc..) for 1(H) people, the same amount of land will raise wheat enough for 1,(100 people. Since ancient times, wheat has been prepared in many ways, but never so perfectly as in Malta-Vita, the only predigested whole wheat flaked food in which the starch of wheat is converted by the action of pure barley malt extract into rich, nourishing maltose (malt sugar), ready for immediate absorption by the blood. The maltose of Malta-Vita is quickly converted into energy for mind and muscle work, forming rich blood and imparting immediate vigor to the whole system without taxing the weakest digestion. Malta-Vita has a full, rich wheat-and-malt flavor pleasing alike to the tastes of young and old and should be made a part of the daily food by all who value health and long life.
