It is hard to stop the onward march

of the young' men engaged in the Y. M. C. A. house to house- effort. It was thought by some that the young men would not brave the storm of Thursday evening, and it was hardly necessary to open the rooms as there would be nothing doing, but Thursday night's work again showed the kind of stuff the young men are made of. ' At the usual hour the boys began to come in with their reports and kept it up until after 10 o'clock, the general expression being, "what a dandy night to catch people home." In one home, the husband who is a traveling man, who had made a subscription sometime ago of $23, the wife in this home gave the boys a pledge of $23, and a boy 13 years of age gave $10, which he has been working for and saving a long time for this cause. In another home where the fellows went the man said in regretful tones, "I wish I could help you on in this work but here I am with my wife, three boys, and two girls to keep, getting a $1.25 a day in one of the factories in this city." The fellow's said to him, "we don't want your subscription, the Y. M. C. A. is built to giva

Fountain City. April 26. A qfcite expensive and. what came dangeroily near being a fatal accident occurred

at the planing mill of Boren a

Garber this week. While working at one of the machines L. O. Anderson detected an unusual knocking in the engine room. He ran at once to the engine, a ten horse gasoline, going at full speed and shut it off, and then stepped around to throw the belt but .thought better of it and stepped to one side just as the heavy castings tegan to fly to pieces and over the room. When all was over it was discovered that either a wrist pin had broken or a counterweight had become loosened thus disengaging the pitman which, flying free had pounded the cast iron hood and other atLiched parts to pieces. An attempt will be

made to repair the engine but it will be a difficult task as a number of parts are sprung, in. addition to the damage done to the castings. The broken parts are being sent to a Richmond machine shop, meanwhile Ed Iamb's shop, Wiggins saw mill and old reliable hand power are being substituted in getting out the orders of the firm.
