other year was made by the quarterly
conference held at the Fifth street M

the return of the Presiding Elder, Rev,
T. M. Guild.
The Rev. Campbell is closing his
third year . with this church and the appreciation of his work and ability
is. not confined to his own congrega
tion. He is in great demand as a pop
ular speaker and has filled many en
gagements for patriotic, memorial and fraternal addresses. He also holds the record as having performed more
marriages and officiated at more funer
als than any other protestant minis
ter-in the city during, the past year.
He is especially popular with the la
boring men and the fraternal orders
Signs of Improvement.
The general condition of the church
shows signs of improvement. A splen
did Sunday school under the leader
ship of J. O. Foss, assuperintendent;
an excellent Epworth league with II,
S. Stillinger as president; a Junior
league with Mrs. Ida Myers as super
ntendent and an energetic Ladies Aid
society with Mrs. J. O. Campbell' pre
sident are some of the strong features
of the church.
Financial Condition Good.
"While the membership is small and
composed of working people, the fin
ancial condition is the best that has existed for several years. A debt was incured in the purchase of a parsonage property but the congregation
hopes by strict economy to soon have
a home for their minister.

Burns the Brain to Ashes. Tobacco deadens the brain, stupe fies the conscience, ruins the affec
tions, brings the beast to the surface. Most tobacco users are the last ones in the race for success. Business men nowadays are looking around for men
and boys who are not tobacco slaves
for clear-headed, strong-nerved help
ers, who can be relied on.
It takes only ten minutes for to
bacco to change the beats of the heart. To keep it up is to tempt death by heart, disease, nervous collapse, tobacco cancer, and stomach, liver or kidney diseases. For the jroung cigarette fiend who has become so calloused that he smokes in the face of his mother, sister, wife or sweetheart, "Easy-To-Quit" is a salvation. Mothers, save the young smoker's brain, he cannot do it himself. Wives, sisters "and sweethearts, help save the
mind, body and future of some one who is near and dear to you. "Without your help it may not be done. ,
"Easy-To-Quit" is a positive, abso
lute "stopper" for any tobacco habit.
It is a vegetable remedy, and any lady can give it secretly in food or drink. It is harmless, leaves no reaction or bad after effects, and it stops the habit to stay stopped. . .

William A. Proctor, the Cincinnati
millionaire, who committed suicide Thursday at his home in Glendale, O.. by shooting himself, was well known in Richmond, his former wife having
been a sister of the late Richard Jackson of Richmond. Mr. Proctor was
also an uncle of John J. Burchenal, a
former Richinonrman,, -who is now assistant general manager of1 the Proc

Dr.- Williams Pink Pills have been curing the most stubborn cases of rheumatism for nearly . a generation and thousands of grateful patients have given testimony that cannot be ignored. If you suffer from this disease and have not given the pills a trial perhaps It-is your prejudice or the infiuence of some friend that has prevented your finding health. Perhaps your doctor cannot help you and the thousand remedies recommended for rheumatism do not touch your.case. We have on record hundreds of just such, cases cured by Dr. Williams' Pink Pills aad will welcome the opportunity- to submit the evidence to you. Mr. Robert Odbert, a machinist, liv
ing at 201 Cameron . Street, Detroit, Mich., had a very distressing experience with rheumatism for about two years. He makes the following statement: "About the year 1S87 I felt the effects of rheumatism which gradually grew worse until I was compelled to give up work for a time. The years
of S7 and 9S I was confined to my-bed
fadst of the time. -I wasunder doctors'
treatment but found;" no relief:' My legs were swollen from the hips down
ward and red blotches appeared' all
over them. Frequently they pained
me so that I had to bind them tigatly with strips of linen. This sometimes relieved the pain but at other times
failed to do so. At times I had to
crawl to my work, using two crutches.
had shot himself in the head while alone in the bathroom.
Coroner Cameron was called and be
gan an investigation oi tne circumstances of the shooting and in the meantime refused to make any statement except to say that Mr.' Proctor had died from a bullet wound. Mr. Proctor was .widely known in business
circles and was a prominent layman in the Protestant Episcopal church, to the institutions of which he was a liberal giver.
His wealth was estimated at many
millions.most of which had been-.made by himself. He was noted for the cooperative scheme for a division of profits with employes which he had de
signed for his company.
Members of the family admitted that
Mr. - Proctor committed suicide by
shooting himself in the head while in
the bathroom shortly after 3 o'clock
Thursday afternoon. It is said that Mr. Proctor had been suffering from
melancholy ever sinee the death of his wife, four years ago. He was born
in this city seventy-three years ago
from pain around my heart which I at
tributed' to the rheumatism. "At last my mother wrote me and asked me to try Dr. Williams' Pink Pills. I did and fu a short time I found myself getting better and have had no trouble since, I may here add that I consider myself perfectly cured. I have . not had the least sign of the disease since and feel better now than I ever did. For these reasons I recommend Dr. Williams' Pink Pills to any one affected the same as I was." Dr. Williams Pink Pills are sold by all druggists, or sent by mail, postpaid on receipt of price, 50 cents per box, six bottles for $2.50, by the Dr. Williams Medicine Co., Schenectady, N. Y.

LACKS GOOD HORSE SENSE. Rushville Publication Shows That
Congressman Watson Knows Little About Horses.
A great many friends of Congressman Watson have come to the conclusion that he does not even possess
good horse sense. (Of course, this is
meant in the literal sense.)
He wintered his mare with. Nine Amos, south of this city, and last week the warm days and a touch of- the
spring fever prompted him to phone for the animal. And- here is the
story that "Three Rings" (its a party
line, you know) tells of -the conversation between the congressman and the
farmer:
"Say, Nine, bring my mare up as
soon as convenient, , will you, , . old
man.' .

a pasture all alone. . Whose horse did she catch them -from.?" Rushville Ex-
