At the trial of the divorce case of

Cook vs. Cook, in the circuit court,

the name of the Rev. H. C. Randolph, former pastor of the Ninih Street Baptist church, was mentioned in such a way that' the members of this church were not pleased, as they consider that he has been done an injustice. At a meeting of the officers of the church the following action was taken: We, the officers of the Ninth Street Baptist church in session, severely denounce the statements 'made in the

Circuit Court, reflecting upon the good character of our former pastor, Rev. II. C. Randolph- We feel that the mention of his name in connection with the Cook divorce case is malicious, and with a desire to defame his good character. We believe that the true facts have been withheld in the case and that the court was taken advantage of by the parties seeking the divorce, it being evident that they have. resorted even to bringing the good name of Rev. Randolph into the case in order to obtain a divorce. During Rev. Randolph's career as our pastor, we can truthfully and unreservedly say that he always conducted himself as an upright christian man and the esteem and confidence in which he was held by the people was fully demonstrated by the very hearty reception tendered him before his departure from Richmond by the representative men of the community. Rev. Randolph resigned his charge

solely because of more flattering offers extended in other fields and we as officers of the Ninth Street Baptist church denounce the effort made to defame his good name and feel that the mention of his name in connection with the case is entirely unwarranted and that the parties who have been guilty of so doing should be made to prove the charges they have made.
