The committee will confer with the West Side Improvement association in regard to a similar petition in West Richmond. The committee is composed of the following: A. E. Ranks, J. E. Harris, J. T. Appropriation by the Legislature Will Make Several Changes Possible.

INCLUDE NEW COTTAGES. AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF WORK WILL BE THE OVERHEAD CROSSING AT THE PANHANDLE TRACKS.

There will be considerable improvement made next fall at the Eastern Hospital for the insane at Easthaven. At the -last session of the legislature the sum of $77,800 was appropriated for improvements at the hospital and plans and preparations for. these improvements are now being made un

der the supervision of Dr. S. E. Smith,

medical superintendent of the hospital. In an interview Dr. Smith stated that the amount appropriated by the legislature is not available at the present time and that he thought the work of making the desired improvements would not start until Dext fall. Two New Cottages. The first work that will be done will be the erection of two large cottages each of which will be able to accommodate from forty to fifty patients. The erection of these two cottages is absolutely essential, Dr. Smith stated, owing to the fact that the present quarters for patients are overcrowded and it is extremely hard to find room for the new patients that are daily being admitted to the hospital. In this county for the past two or three years many insane people have had to be confined in the county jail for weeks at a time owing to the fact that the hospital authorities could not admit them because of the insufficient accommodations. The same conditions has existed in the other counties in eastern Indiana. New Railroad Crossing. Dr. Smith states that another improvement that will be made is a railroad crossing. At the present time the numerous people that daily visit Easthaven are obliged to enter the grounds by walking over the tracks of the Panhandle railroad. For the sake of protecting these visitors and the attaches of the hospital, plans are now being drawn for an overhead crossing. Dr. Smith stated that there will be several other improvements about the grounds and buildings which are of minor importance.

MUD STILL TROUBLESOME. Gulch Near Cincinnati Has Not Yet Been Subdued.

According to the statements of C, C. & L. men passing through this city the mud gulch near Cincinnati is still giving trouble. A train crew and section gang are now located at the place temporarily In order to keep the tracks clear. Large quantities of mud continue to slide down onto the tracks notwithstanding the fact that it has not rained heavily for several days. The soil at this place is filled with moisture and resembles greatly the slimy mud thrown from gas wells. Up to date nothing has been tried that has proven successful in stopping the constant sliding of the dirt onto the roadway.

Pullman cars, are being erected in the j Pennsylvania shops at Pittsburg, for ttte use of linemen for the Southwest j system, according to the statement of j a local official. One of the cars will i afford ten upper and ten lower berths.

a dining room, state room and a kitchen outfit. The other car will house blocks, tools and all materials used in the work of repairing the lines. The cars will be used on different divisions of the southwest system and will be placed in use on the Richmond division as they are needed.

Sunday's Palladium will contain in addition to much live local news, the opening chapters of "The Plum Tree," several timely features and a page story complete in itself.

Do Not Crowd the Season. The first warm days of spring bring with them a desire to get out and enjoy the exhilarating air anC sunshine. Children that have been housed up all winter are brought out and you wonder where they all came from. The heavy winter clothing is thrown aside and many shed their flannels. Then a cold wave comes and people say that grip is epidemic. Colds at thi3 season are even more dangerous than in midwinter, as there is much more danger of pneumonia. Take Chamberlains Cough Remedy, however, and you will have nothing to fear. It always cures, and we have never known a cold to result In pneumonia when it wa3 used. It is pleasant and safe to take. Children like it. For sale "by A. G. Luken & Co.
