OFFICIALS TOLD THAT THEY OUGHT TO HANG

Jessup and Mosbaugh Hear from Cambridge.

GAMBLING STILL GOES ON

"You and Frank Mosbaugh should be hung for not enforcing the law in Cambridge City," was the sensational "statement in an anonymous letter received yesterday by Prosecutor Jessup from Cambridge City. This letter was written in disguised handwriting and the gist of it was that Richmond's neighboring city on the west was being run on a wide open policy. It stated that gambling houses had been doing a flourishing business for some time; that houses of evil repute were allowed to operate and that the liquor laws were being daily violated. Pick on Mosbaugh. - County Recorder Mosbaugh, who is p. member of the Cambridge City tovti board, was the only member of that body picked out by the author of the letter to receive capital punishment. "I expect some day soon you will find my lifeless body- hanging from the limb of a tree," remarked Mr. Mb3baugh Jessup is Investigating. Prosecutor Jessup wrnt to Cambridge yesterday morning for the purpose of investigating the charges made in the letter and to try to learn who its author is.

PROSPECTS ARE BRIGHT

HAZZARD "BACK TRACKED"

Decided not to go to New Castle Because of the Many Charges Against Him.

It is understood that George Ilazzard, who has been in Washington, D. C, got as far as Kokomo, on his way to this city ' to appear in the Woodward suit, but on learning of a cumber of charges against him, he "back tracked." liazzard was once reputed to be worth a halt million of dollars, and was instrumental ; in organizing two banks in New Castle. Ik? was treasurer of Henry county two terms. He has many complicated suits, all to be tried here, among them a charge of forgery, arising from some of the contracts he made with Henry county citizens in the history of that county, and biographies of the leading people which he wrote. Local high school athletes will begin active training this week in preparation for the annual track and field meet of the Northern Indiana High School league, which is composed of the high schools in Richmond, Kokomo, Anderson and Marion. The meet this year will be held at Anderson but the exact date has not, yet been decided on . There is said to be good material at the local school for a first class track and field team,

which will make a strong bid for first honors.

Marion Has Won Twice.

Marion ' high school has won the championship cup twice and if that school succeeded in winning it again this spring it will become the property of the school. Every time Marion has taken first honors Richmond has been a close second. Last year when the meet was held in Richmond at Reid Field the local school gave the Marionites a' run for their money and the result was not known until the last event had been run off. Pick of Young Athletes. The state high school meet, which will be held in May at Reid Field, will bring to this city the pick of the young athletes from every section of the state and it will be an event long remembered in local sporting circles. It is expected that the delegation from out of town high schools will number between two and three hundred athletes and there will be a large number of rooters. The local hotels will be taxed to capacity in caring for these youthful visitors. Will Improve the Field. As soon as warm weather opens work on improving Reid Field to put into good condition for the big meet will be begun. The big field will be thoroughly rolled and sown with grass 'seed and the track will be repaired and" made as fast as possible. It is also planned to make a one hundred yard straight away track to parallel the dirt track. This; cinder track, will be used for the fifty and one hundred yard sprints.

It is very probable thai -when President Hugh McGowan. of the Indianapolis, Columbus & Eastern traction company, visits this city this week he will be asked to confer with the board of county commissioners with the end in view of reaching some understanding on the limited car fare agitation and other difficulties the county has been having with the company for some time past. At a recent meeting held by the commissioners it was announced that an effort will be made to arrange a meeting with Mr. McGowan. No Special Car Runs. Commissioner Wynes states that there is no special traction car for the benefit of the men living at various places in the county who are employed in this city and who are now obliged tcr'take a limited car after their day's work and pay - an extra 5 cents fare. With certain stipulations the company promised to run a local car in place of this late afternoon limited car, but Mr. Dynes states that the people of Centerville and other towns in the county along the traction line, who are employed here have never reached an agreement as to what time

this special car should leave Richmond and consequently the car has not been put on by the company. Reduced Fare Only Solution.

The commissioners are of the opinion that the scheduled time for a special car to leave the city will never be decided on and they think that the

only solution of the problem is to have

the fare on limited cars operating

through this county reduced from 15

cents to 10 cents. The commissioners are of the opinion that if this proposition Is placed before Mr. Mc

Gowan in the proper light he will ord er the reduction of fare on limited

cars. The commissioners also main

tain that the traction company does not take the proper care of its right

of way along the National road and this question will be laid before Mr. McGowan. "I have been fighting the traction company for two years now," remarked Mr. Dynes, "and I am about tired. I want some understanding reached."

WILL ALL BE CLOSED Business Must Necessarily be Suspended on St. Patrick's Day for Very Good Reason.

Sure Sign of Spring. A Kure sign that spring is nearby and ready to put in an appearance on the slightest excuse is the army of

roDinns tnat has just invaded the citv

Monday their singing could be heard all over the city. Other birds common

to these parts that have wintered in

the south are daily putting in their

appearances.

It may oe news to many Richmond people that St. Patrick's day, which comes on the 17th of March, will see

all the saloons of this city closed; also the grocery stores, dry goods stores and most all the other places of business closed, but such is the case. And this will be the first time in many years that business houses have not been opened on that day. This is not a new law passed by the present legislature. It simply means that the 17th this year comes on Sunday.

Strike a Faiiure. Cleveland, March 11. Reports received by officers of the American Shipbuilding company early today indicate failure of the strike threatened by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and Steel Shipbuilders. It is claimed that not more than two thousand of the five thousand men have gone out.
