Joaquin Miller, the Poet of the Sierras" Is to Look Once More Upon the Scenes of his Boyhood in Grant County, Indiana.
Marion, Ind., March 2. Joaquin Miller, the "Poet of the Sierras," has written Marion friends of his definite intention to visit Marion and the scenes of his boyhood next summer. He has indicated that he would probably come in August. The Grant County Historical society will soon take steps looking to a proper reception for Mr. Miller on his visit here. Jt is possible he may be asked to speak ata big outdoor meeting to be held at the site of his old home in this county. Joaquin Miller was born In Cincinnati, November 10, 1841, where his father was a merchant. Being unsuc-

the fact that he has all these years corresponded from time to time with William Sutton, a farmer of this county, who lives near the old Miller home, northwest of the city. The ' Poet of the Sierras" has never visited this part of Indiana since he left it as a boy.

Wants Back Pension. Nearly $700 is the amount of money which Henry F. DePue, an inmate of East Haven will receive as back pension pay if the efforts of his guardian, Joseph D. Rex are successful.
For several years DePue has been an
inmate of East Haven and the pension money has been left to accumulate, during his confinement there. A service pension of $20 a month is also said to be due DePue under the new law, recently passed by congress. pePue is a resident of Al
