Vaudeville at the Phillips. News of the pleasing quality of the vaudeville bill at the New Phillips has spread over the entire city by this time and it is noticed that many in addition to the regular patrons, of the house have been in attendance this week, attracted by the high quality and the diversity of program. It is conceded that those who are in search of amussment, cannot invest a dime to better advantage than at a vaudeville entertainment, for if they do not care for all the numbers, they are certain

to find something that will please?

them, and hence will be well repaid for the small outlay. A special mattnee for children will be given on Saturday, and on Saturday evening there will be the usual double performance. Manager Murray is lining up a good bill for next week.

Modjeska Gennett. Playgoers read with pleasure that the coming Modjeska farewell appearance in this city, which takes place at the Gennett on next Monday night will present the great actress in her most famous role, that of "Lady Macbeth."

"The Woman in the Case" Gennett The play with one of the best titles any of the dramatists have made use of in many years, namely, "The Woman in the Case," will be seen at the Gennett, New Year's Day matinee and night. A better name for a modern society drama could hardly be imagined. It would fit an infinite variety of plays, for the prime factor in any dramatic problem is invariably a woman. This is the greatest of the Clyde Fitch dramas, and was voted by the public and critics of New York as being the best of the

many popular successes contributed j

by this prolific author. The scene is laid in New York and its action is supposed to be of the present time. There are four scenes, two of them representing sumptuous interiors reflecting the luxurious homes of New

j York's 400. Another represents an

apartment of questionable repute in the uptown tenderloin, and another i3 a faithful reproduction of the visitors room in the famous Tombs prison. Managers Von Mitzel and Summer will carry the complete production on tour just as seen, during Its remarkable run of four months at the Herald Square Theatre, New York, and subsequently at five other playhouses there.
