PANG HONG COMING HERE

WILL VISIT REV. KUHIV The Little Fellow Has Given Up Hs Religion and Adopted Christianity His Release from the Authorities Was Interesting.

Pang Hong, the young protege of th3 Rev. T. H. Kuhn. will come to Richmond Sunday, when he will be the puest of his former teacher. Pang Hong was the young Chinese boy whom Rev. Kuhn was instrumental in releasing from the hands of the Federal authorities at Portal, X. D., where he was refused admittance, after he had returned from a visit with his parents in China. President Roosevelt, at Rev. Kuhn's request, had the young man released and the occurrence aroused the ire of Secret-iry Metcalf to such an extent that he threatened to leave the President's cabinet if Roosevelt interfered again in the affairs of the Chinese. Pang Hong is an exceptionally brilliant young man, and after a few months teaching, decided to renounce his pagan religion and accept that which he considered right. He is deToted to Rev. Kuhn for the teachi.13 and instruction he received at the minister's hands while the latter wcs pastor of the Christian church at Frankfort, Ind. Although the Chinese boy has only been in Richmond twice, as the guest of Rev. Kuhn, he has gained many friends by his genial end thoughtful disposition.

City Engineer Charles and his as-; sistants have made some test borinaf

on the west side in the territory through which the new sewer will be built next summer and as had been expected they find that there is a great aera of rock. The depth below the surface is from two to four or five feet. In one locality the rock is close to the surface that the driving of a long stake is impossible. The upper part of the stone formation consists of thin stratas separated by clay but finally a solid bed of lime stone rock is encountered and its depth is not known. The presence of rock beneath the surface covering a large part of the area through which the sewer will pass, means much to the contractors and Engineer Charles by his tests can with a considerable degree of accuracy estimate the extra cost that will be involved in making the excavations. Blasting will have to be resorted to in order to get through the rock, which means added expense. However, neither the engineer, the, Board of Works nor the West Side Improvement Association believes that the contract price will be an excessive one. The needs of the sewer are plainly manifested and the property owners realize that the assessments they will be called upon to bear will add just that much to the value of their properties. It wiil be a considerable time before the engi

neer's department will have plansj !

and specifications and the estimate of the cost ready for the Board.

The first annual banquet of the Friendly Bill club will be held on Friday evening at 312 Main street. The members of this unique organization are preparing for a grand time and the menu, which is being arranged w;ll be out of the ordinary. The Friendly Bill club is composed of members, each of whose given name is "Bill." The members who will be seated at the banquet board Friday night, foN low. Bill Ferris. Bill Waking. Bill Knott. Bill Young. Bill Shingler. Bill Blue. Bill Wood. , Bill George. Bill Batche. ; Bill Grimes. : Bill Cosgrovo Bill Cooper. Bill Clark. .

As an evidence that there 'is need

! for a condification of the city ordinances, it might be pointed out thai

there are 57 police ordinances and 123 others which have been passed by the city council since the year 1S9S the time when the present ordinance book was compiled and printed. Nearly two hundred ordinances which do not appear, some of them amending or repealing those which are contained in the ordinance bevk now used by all departments of the city. City Clerk Taggart yesterday completed the work of making a memorandum of all police ordinances for the benefit of the police department. The detailed provisions of these new ordinances were not written out. as such a task would have required much time, but hereafter when the police department cannot find an ordinance in the book which will cover a case in point, reference to the memorandum furnished by the Clerk can be made and if the title is found which fits the case, detailed Information as to its provisions may be

found by referring to the Xritten or

dinance record in the jraice of the

city clerk.
