USE DIFFERENT TACTICS Great Explorer Will Go as the Head of Expedition to North Pole, But Will Not Lead Dash Across the Sea of Ice. " Publishers' Press.! New York, Dec. 17, Friends of Commander' Robert E. Peary, the Arc tic explorer, stated today that the holder of the farthest north record of 87 degrees, 6 minutes, has practically decided to make another trial in search of the North Pole,, but one unlike any o.his former trials. It is stated that in his new attempt Commander Peary will go as the head of the expedition, but he will not be the leader of the ice dash journey. He will , direct the expedition from the ship or the winter quarters of the ex pedition. The Roosevelt, which Is to be his ship the second time, will make her winter quarters in the vicinity of the north end of. Grant Land. Peary will remain by the vessel sending sledge parties to cover the intervening 450 miles that rests between Cape Sheridan, the base of the opera tion, and the North Pole. City is here visiting her son, Mr. Arch Hindman. Mrs. Orphia Jones and Mrs. Fred Smith have returned home after a two weeks' ivisit with Mr. and Mrs James Knapp in Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Scott and Mrs. Ira Swisher were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Hindman Wednesday. The members of the Thimble Club were entertained last Wednesday at the home of Mrs, Kate Adams in New Castle, and all present reported a fine time. A fine luncheon was served. THE OUTLOOK LAST NIGHT SEEMED THAT BOTH THE ,MU TUAL AND NEW YORK LIFE AD MINISTRATION TICKETS WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. IPublishers Press.! New York, Dec. 17. At four o' clock Tuesday afternoon the contest for control of the Mutual and New York Life Insurance Companies will have ended and immediately therafter five representatives of each company, named by State Superintendent of Insurance Otto Kelsey, Jr., will begin the tabulation of the votes that have been cast for members of the new board of trustees. Both sides will have watchers present, and there is every reason to believe tonight that not only will the result of of the election be protested but that the higher t courts ji the United States will be asked to pass upon the legality of the result when finally announced by the inspectors. A careful canvas of both camps at a late hour tonight indicates that the policy holder's tickets are beaten. Judging from the indications at pres ent, the New York Life Administra tion ticket will have very nearly one hundred thousand majority out of the total vote cast and the present ad ministration in the Mutual Life will be successful by between 20,000 and o0,000. Although th? officials cf the two corporations say that the vote will not be more than sixty per cent of the total policyholder, judging from all eighty per cent of the policy holders have voted either yes or no for the administration tickets. In addition to the New York and Mutual Life elections, there will take place tomorow, the election of trus tees of the Equitable, the Mutual Reserve and the Security Mutual. In all of those however, the present boards I will be re-elected, as fhere is no ser-! ious opposition. HE IS 30 AND SHE BUT 15 Tony Ferrant Takes to Wife Catherine Drudy Father of the Girl appeared at County Clerk's Office and Gave His Consent. Tony Ferrant, aged thirty, and a native of sunny Italy, was yesterday married to Catherine Drudy, aged sixteen, by Squire Abbott at cis office on Main street. Mrs. Ferrant is a daughter of Thomas Drudy of 535 North Fourteenth street, and her father appeared with iier yesterday when the license was Issued at the Clerk's office and gave his consent to the marriage of his daughter. The couple attracted a great deal attention both at the Cork's office and at the office of Squire Abbott, where they were united as one. Mr. Ferrant is employed by the Pennsylvania railroad as switch light tender, while Mrs. Drudy has a large number of friends who sincerely hope that her marriage to tne foreigner, will not result as many of the marriage s of American heiresses to foreign nobility has done. Mr. and Mrs. Ferrant will make their residence In this city. Miss Bichey Still Sick. POTTER TO INDIANAPOLIS Wayne Township Trustee to Tak Active Part in State Meeting of Similar Officers. Charles Potter left yesterday for Indianapolis where he will attend the meeting of the State Trustees Association, which is in session in the capital city. Mr. Potter is treasurer of the Indiana association. Several very important matters in the conduct of trustee's business will be discussed.
