In that only a small part of the men of the shops have been seen. Secretary Brown feels that the amount is quite large and puts a hopeful aspect on the matter of securing more funds from them. But few men working in the shops have . flatly refused to give although some have asked that they be allowed to put off their giving until after the holidays. Although the solicitors do not think this a valid reason they accept it and will see the men after Christmas. . Secretary Brown fears that the collections may slightly lag on account of the holidays but if they should they will be resumed afterwards with a vengeance. There is no inclination, to "lay down" on the part of the Secretary, however, and if a display of energy means anything the fund will go forward with leaps and bounds from now on. At present the Jones Hardware Company has the best record in the point of giving. The average each man gave there is quite high. The total fund up to last night "was $1C,1S0.50. CHANGE AT THE EMPIRE
