The play is one of the most highly entertaining musical comedies ever written.. It ls tuneful, laughable and interesting from the fact that it has a tangible plot and a sensible basis for all that occurs. It is , said thi3 record discloses a state of a"airs not generally known, and that ence before at least the Twenty-fifth infantry "shot up" a town. The affair happened in 18S3, at Fort Sturgis, Dakota. Some of the negro soidif rs went cn a rampage similar to that at Brownsville. Tex., and one of their number killed a citizen. In that case, however, the citizens took the matter into their hands, forced the troops under pain of death to disclose the name of the man who did the killing and then took him out and lynched him.

Exodus from Miquelon. IPublishers" Press. Sydne.v , ., J. Alarmed by the rapid decrease in the population of St. Pierre, Miquelon, the( French government revised the customs tariff
for the island to stimulate business Interests. with cholera serum died recently dis closed traces of plague germs in thdead bodies. No formal report on th result of the investigation has beer
made and the government has reached
no decision in the matter. It is asserted that tubes containing plague germs, and others filled with cholera serum, which are so mud alike that it is almost . impossible tr distinguish them apart, were mixed in the laboratory by a visitor who ex
amined the plague germs and by mis
take placed them in a rack with the serum tubes. This is said to have occurred during the temporary absence of Dr. R. P. Strong of the bureau of
science,' who was conducting experiments and inoculation of persons with cholera serum to test Its efficacy.
The natives generally are in ignorance of the situation, but the foreign
ers are indignant and bitter. It is not believed that criminal charges will be preferred, but it is possible that Dr. Strong may resign. The supreme court denied the application of a writ of error in the case of Dominador Gomez, and remanded it to the lower court for execution of sentence. The agitator will be sent to Bilibid prison. He was convicted for having slandered Governor Cailles.
