But of all animal trainers that have ever bowed to an appreciative audience, there are none more clever or fearless than the slight little lady who will perform with her den of bears at the New Phillips Theatre thia week. To say that the bears are perfectly trained, does not do them justice, or fully describe them, as they seem endowed with almost human Intelligence; their performance Is far superior to most all other wild animal acts, as they work with such fr.av and willingness, that it is a treat to watch the mas hey perform the difficult tricks, that r--re formerly accomplished only by dogs.

ni Olid and other Indiana cities two years ago. A dispatch from Canton Ohio says: "The last seven days have witnessed the introduction of several new star polo players in the cities comprising the Interstate league. Included were Ado Mansfield, center for New Castle; Bert Mallory, goal tend for Sharon, and "Ikey" Houghton, rush of the same team. "Mansfield is conceded to be "one of the best men in the business at center, some critics even going so far as to state that he is equal to Fred Jean, who has always been considered in a class by himself at center. However, Mansfield is a better man at "getting" Eddie Higgins, the fastest rush in the business, than Jean or any other man. "The acquisition of Ado Mansfield at center by Manager Marquis was a ten strike, and the New Castle team has been sailing on easy waters ever since. Ado is the 'missing link' in that he fills the one weak spot in the New Castle lineup. From now on the Noblemen should be heard from. "Ikey" - Houghton is new to most fans in the Interstate. ' He played

with Cleveland for a short time last season. 'Ikey' is the only Hebrew

playing polo, and when going right is

all to the good.

" 'Soxy' Lyons also made his de

but for the 1906 season, playing with

Akron last Monday. Lyons was com

pelled to pay a $200 fine in order to

be restored to good standing in the Interstate. Last season he jumped C!pt-e1?"d for New Castle and was fined $200 in addition to being sus

pended.

The Season of Mysteries About this season of the year. When days are cold and nights are dreajr, A stir through all the household creeps As soft as dreams to him who sleeps. Now Mollie sits up late at night And keeps her bedroom door shut tight; She has an absentminded air That makes her little brother stare. And mother, too, seems bothered soma By all the stir and bob and hum That sets the house in disarray And gathers strength day atter day. About this season of the year A lot of things seem very queer. But all the shadows will skiddoo When Santa Claus has come to 3rou.
