Receipts Saturday Hogs, 5,000; cattle, 500; sheep. 150; against 3,141 hogs, 1,176 cattle and 544 sheep a week ago, and 6,121 hogs, 531 cattle and 81 sheep a year ago. , There was a good Saturday run of cattle, and, including stale offerings, the supply was probably the largest in the history of the market for the

closing day of the week. j Throughout this week there was a liberal marketing of cattle, and the total for the week is t je largest on record for a corresponding period, and about 700 larger than the previous record, made in July. Supplies at all times were largar than could be used, and more cattle were carried over from on' day to another than usual. After the middle of the week i. rices of calves declined rapidly and good kinds were finally $1.00 lower, while common heavy grades and thin veals were, at least in some cases, $2 lower than the high time. Receipts of hogs were as large as usual at this time in the week, but smeller than a year ago. Market opened with small demand from out side sources. Receipts of sheep and lambs were nniv fair and not large enough to en courage comr etition between buyers. Demand was equal to the suply ana steady prices were realized. STEERS . Kidney ills come quietly mysteri ously, But nature always, warns you through the urine. Notice the kidney secretions. See if the color is unhealthy If there are settlings and sediment, Passages too frequent, scanty, painful. It's time then to use Doan's Kidney Pills, To ward of Bright's d'.sease or diabetes. Doan's have, done great work in Richmond. Martin Bulach, tailor, of South 5th street, Richmond, Ind., says: "A number of years ago I was troubled with backache and the kidney secretions were too free . and discolored. This was brought on, I think, by the trying nature of my work. Doan's Kidney Pills were recommended for similar cases and I secured a box from A. G. Luken's drng store. After taking them only a short time, the aches and pains disappeared and the kidney secretions became normal again. I thank Doan's Kidney Pills for the relief I found, and recommend them to anyone suffering in this way." For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo, New, York, sole agents for the United States. Remember the name Doan's and take no other. . Danger In' LloUlnpr Stamps. The London Lancet calls attention to the "common and dirty practice of licking' postage stamps" and points out many dangerous consequences. The Lancet in sending out special supplement parcels, requiring three penny 6tamps, was struck with the brilliancy of the stamps. The yellow coloring was found on analysis to be due to a poisonous salt, obromate of lead. Each stamp in weight is more than half a grata, and the quantity of ehromate present is 2.53 per cent. Thus a fatal dose of one-fifth of a grain would be contained in fourteen stamps. To Core Scalr Isr. Scaly leg is a filth disease, if it can be called a disease, it being caused by a tiny mite which burrows under the scales of the legs and toes. It lives and breeds there. The remedy Is very simple and easy. It is only necessary to grease the legs with any kind of grease. An ointment of a third kerosene oil and two-thirds lard is easily applied, and if'well rubbed oii and in half a dozen times a couple of days apart should kill the mites, and the scales will come off. Don't pull off the scales that have become large. That will hurt the birds, something as pulling off your finger nails would hurt you. Good Health of Duckling's. If Toungjducks are given proper feed and not allowed too much range there is very seldom any sickness In the flock. Always endeavor to find out the cause of any trouble and remove it. IPublifliers Pressl - Chicago, October 21. The wheat market opened weak Saturday on gen eral selling. Factors for lower prices were lower cables from India and Australia and weaker curb prices at Minneapolis. During the 'latter part of the session there was only light trading and the market closed practically at the bottom. The corn market was easier at the opening on lower cables and a forecast of lower weather throughout the corn belt. Weather conditions are expected to increase the crop move ment. The oats market was quiet and easier. The provisions market was steady, but lifeless. " Hog receipts, 11,000; left over, 4,633; prospects steady. It shows the total amount taken in ,for passengers, for "extras," such as trunks valises and bags, and it shows the entire number of trips made by the vehicle in which it Is placed. It is a sort of combination of a clock and a cyclometer. If the minimum charge Is 50 cents, the mechanism is set accordingly, the numerals "50 showing in the rectangular space on the left hand side. For FACE OF TAXAMETER. every fifth of a mile'after the first, 10 cents more is registered. If the vehicle stops, then the clock begins to work, and the register shows 10 cents for every six minutes that the hack is not moving. "When the hack starts again, then the clock stops and the device works by distance again. The apparatus is connected with the rear wheel. The little space on the right shows the number of passengers. The small space near the bottom shows the charge-for "extras;" the driver himself regulates that. The small circular spaces show the total amount taken for driving, for "extras" and the number of trips made since the instrument began at zero. .only B. New York, Oct. 21. The eudden and unexpected advance in the" Bank of Ecffland rate came like a bomb-i shell in the market. The Bank rate is now 6 per cent, the highest rate since the Baring failure sixteen years ago. This step was, of course, necessitated by the impoverished condition of the Bank of England reserve, and the propspect of fresh demands upon its stock of gold from Egypt and the United States. The decline in foreign exchange in this market on Thursday was a plain intimation of our intention to draw more gold from the other side and the advance in the Bank rate was undoubtedly in sheer self defense. . The consequences of this act on can hardly be predicted at this writing. Its effect upon stock speculation must be unfavorable, and prices must fall more or less in consequence. We have, for the time b3ing at least, used up all available supplies of money and our credit system is greatly extended; not perhaps to the limit of soundness, yet quite up to the margin of safety. It means that there is an end coming to reckless speculation, and that nothing but liquidation of greater or less severity can restore equilibrium. . The average young woman of today Is busy.
