INDIANAPOLIS MARKETS Publishers' Press! Indianapolis, Sept. 26. Receipts, 6,500 hogs, 1,650 cattle and 500 sheep against 564 hogs, 2,222 cattle and 81S shee pa week ago, and 8,036 hogs, 1 -304 cattle and 645 sheep a year ago. There were not as many hogs in sight when the market opened this morning as yesterday, but, including stock carried over, the supply was equal to that of yesterday. The market opened with buyers bidding barely steady or a little lower prices. Early in the day, under the influence of active competition from outside sources and a good demand from local packers,- there was free selling on a basis of yesterday's prices, there being about as -many, early sales at yesterday's closing as at the morning's figures. Later in the day sales were made 5c higher than the opening and the closing market was strong compared with yesterday's best time. There was another good run of cat tie, and with a large number held over from yesterday, the supply was considerably larger than usual at this time in the week. There was no im provement in the situation, there be ing a slow and indifferent demand from all sources for all kinds. It whs evident earlv in the day that it would be impossible to make a com plete clearance, regardless of price, All cattle that could be were sold about steady compared with yester day, although there was a weal?5 tendency and the outlook is toward lower prices. Sheep Held Unchanged. There was a fair average run o sheep and Iambs, but not enough to Invite active competition between all buyers. There was a steady demand however, for practically all kinds ex cept common stock sheep and prices in a creneral war were steady with yesterday. Good to choice lambs, sold from $6.50(?7.00, and common as low as $4.00. Stock sheep sold as high as $5.00 with good fat sheep at $1.50 and ordinary as low as $3.00.
