Cabbage is bought heavily, with the fcraut season under full headway. There is an idea that the Holland eeed cabbage is better than any other kind and sales of this variety are unusually heavy. Supplies, however, are full and there is not much upward tendency to the market. An advance of $1 a ton 13 being asked over previous prices for the best stock, bu.t there is not enough of this on sak; to make the average price any higher Domestic cabbage is in good demand it steady prices.

Publishers' Press? Indianapolis, Ind., September 21. Receipts Hogs, 4,000 head; cattle, 1,500, and sheep, 400, 'against 4,469 hogs, 2,202 cattle and 651 sheep a week ago, and 6,628 hogs, 1,023 cattle and 536 sheep a year ago. There was another small run of hogs. For two days receipts have been hardly large enough to meet requirement?. The market opened with strong competition between all buyers and at a general advance of 10c higher. With not many hogs on late trains, the closing market was fully equal to the -opening. Sales ranged from $6,50? 6.70, and the bulk of the supply sold at $6.606.65. Not Many Good Cattle. There were not many good cattle in the arrivals. There was fair inquiry for such kinds from all sources, and sellers did not have much trouble in finding an outlet for them at fully steady prices compared with yesterday. The market for plentiful, was slow, and bidding, lower. However, all that were sold brought about steady prices compared with yesterday. There was only a fair demand for feeding cattle, and prices were hardly as high as earlier in the week. There was a good demand for bulls at fully steady prices. Good calves sold strong to 25c higher,, but common kinds moved slowly and were lower. Quiet for Sheep. Barely a normal supply of sheep and lambs arrived, but enough to meet reduced requirements of the trade. There was no urgent competition and sellers reported a quiet market, with sales no more than steady at yesterday's decline.

TPifblishers Press Cincinnati, O., Sept. 21. Receipts Cattle, 910; hogs, 2.S96; sheep, 294. Cattle There was again a liberal run of cattle on the market today, and with only moderate demand from all sources, the movement was unusually quiet for Friday, with an easy tone to values, and in most instances salesmen claimed the aggregate of sales weak to 10c lower. A large proportion of the arrivals today were light cattle, mostly she stock of fair and common quality shipped from Western markets. Good milch cows strong and scarce and common milkers unchanged and slow. Hogs There appeared to be a better inquiry from local buyers and from shippers, and as the receipts were only fair, prices were advanced from 2125c per 100 lbs on all grades.

ket opened strong and active. The j great majority of news reports favorjed the bulls and prices advanced c above the close of yesterday before there was much grain on sale. Commission houses and shorts were the chief buyers, nearly all of the selling better in the shape of realizing. December wheat opened y2c higher and sold up to 75,,75c. Light Trade in Corn. Trade in corn was light, but the market was steady. Moderate receipts and the high wheat market was the chief bullish influences. December opened c to VstQMc higher and sold at 431&43c. . The oats market opened firm in sympathy with other grains, but heavy realizing sales held prices down. The provisions market opened firm on a 5-cent advance in the price of live hogs. Briitsin cf Kehl reports that a Berlin engineer has applied for a patent for an invention' to avoid col lisiens between vessels at sea. By the inventor's system vessels are supplied with special wireless telegraphic apparatus.' which acts over a short circuit, even as short a distance as half s mile. As soon as a vessel enters within a certain distance of another vessel this telegraphic apparatus acts automatically in such a manner as to close the steam tube to the screw on each vessel. The machinery is thus instantly checked, and the steamers have time to reverse the engines or reduce speavl. In this manner accidents can be pre vented. The apparatus is for use in fogs and other heavy -weather. The t-pest Well, The deepest well in the world !s sir nated in the village of Speremberg about twenty mi!es from Berlin. Tea or Tablecr, 25 cents. A. d Luke n & Co. AN EXCELLENT FEEDER. A Simple Device Tlint IIa Served It Fnrpote Admirably, As I could And in none of my papers or books a descriptio)i of a feeder to my notion, I set about to devise and build one, says E. E. Whitney in American Poultry Journal. I succeeded to my entire satisfaction. The accompanying illustrations and description will enable any one to build similar ones. Mine are eight feet long, twrenty inches high and twelve inches wide, and will each accommodate thirty-two hens or fortyeight half grown chicks without crowding. Calculate four hens to each footthat is, two on each side of feeder or six chicks, and build any length desired. It requires but little more labor to build a long one than a short one, though a five or six foot feeder would be more convenient for one person to carry. Of dressed lumber seven-eighths or one inch thick it requires two pieces 12 by 19 inches, one piece twelve FEEDER PARTLY SLATTED. inches wide and eight feet long, one nine inches by eight feet, three four Inches by eight feet and sixteen laths which are two inches by four' feet Cut notches 1 by 4 inches In the top corners of the two 12 by ID end boards and nail cleats below a line five inches from the bottom ends. Bevel four laths and nail them on the twelve inch by eight foot board, the thick edges flush with the edge3 of . the board. These will prevent the feed being raked off the sides. Then set up the end boards, lay the bottom board on the cleats and nail to them with light nails; also, nail through the end boards into the ends of the bottom board with 'long nails. Then a four inch board is to be nailed Into the notches at the top on each side, and the frame is made. Cut laths Into twelve inch pieces and nail on each side. --Thejeasiest way is to lay the feeder, on one side, leave the width of a lath and nail a lath right through. Use small nails for tops of lath, so that none will protrude inside of the feeder. No. 2 will do for top. No. S or 4 for bor-;o. Finish both sides alike, and you are ready for the cover. Nail a four Inch strip on top at one edge and hing? to it a board nine Inches wide. This allows the lid to project over ite s!c?e one inch, making it eonvei:v.-L.t to open. To (itrr Scaly I.ec.
