" Jebretski went to the toilet room with hiss son, and the constable stood at the door. He heard a scream from the son. The constable looked in. and saw the other prisoner gone, .with the shackles. Simon was taken on to Kingston. It is a mystery how the shackles were taken off, for there are no marks of violence on Simon who declines to talk. The sheriff says the cuffs could have been slipped over the lad's hands, but he cannot see - how - the boot irons were removed.

He says it is the belief of the men that the law is an interference with their personal rights guaranteed by the constitution, and that the law if submitted to the supreme court'of the United States would be . regarded as unconstitutional.

! Frank Braffett won over Wilbur Hibbard in the championship golf finish at the Country Club yesterday afternoon by a score of 2 up and 1 to play. The match was one of the most closely contested events in the history of local golf. The finals included thirty-six holes, twenty-five of which had been played off before yesterday. At the beginning of the play yesterday Braffett and Hibberd were even, and at the thirty-third hole they had equal scores. It was then that Braffett showed the better and won the right to have his i name carved on the beautiful club cup. J The consolation play for the President's cup offered by Robt. Stimson is moving along nicely. Ed. Hill has earned the right to play in the finals. S. S. Stratan, Jr.. and Howard Dill play off a match in the semi-annuals today and Hill will meet the winner probably Friday.

STREET CAR Mtn RETURN TO WORK

Ban Francisco. Sept. 5. The strike of car men on the United railroads, which were completely tied up since Aug. 26, was practically ended by a mass meeting at which the car men voted to return to work and submit the question of wage3 and hours to the committee of arbitration. It is proposed that this action will include not only the arbitration of differences between the car men and the company, but also of the linemen, electricians, firemen and construction workers on strike, .The resolution adopted by the union provides that the matter first must be submitted to the strike committee of the seven affiliated unions of employes on the United railroads for ratification, but no opposition is expected. Three Trains In a Wreck. Cumberland, Md., Sept. 5. After two freight trains, east and westbound on the Ealtimore and Ohio railroad, collided at Sir John's run, 50 miles east of Cumberland, blocking both tracks, a third freight train ran into the wreckage before a flagman cculd be sent back.
