Cincinnati, New York andlRichmorld: NEW YORK MARKETS ivew YrK, Aug. 2S. Some suostantial gains were made at the opening of the stock market, but -several stocks were little changed from yesterday's closing. St. Paul. Smelting and Colorado Fuel improved 1 and Northern Pacific- 14. Anaconda, exceptionally, dropped 5 points, but ral lied 7. The general -market became heavy after the first few minutes and the opening advances were wined out Smelting sold a point below yesterday's closing and Reading nearly as much. Much of the irregularity in the market arose from the efforts of the professional traders to conceal their profit-taking in certain stocks, by ad vancing others. The list at no time moved with great uniformity, and was alternately above and below yesterday's closing prices. The Harri man stocks and Reading seemed to yield readily, to those in which there was any great volume of business, while St. Paul and Atchison offened good resistance at times. Canadian Pacific was unusually active and points higher. Sugar and Great North ern preferred suffered temporary loss es of 1 and Vz respectively. Later the market began rising steadily, with St. Paul. Atchison, the Harriman stocks... United States Steel and Amalgamated Copper at the top. Decided Improvement. The best prices " of the morning were made at noon, the market there after reacting on realizing. St. Paul and Northwestern ran off -14 from the highest and Union Pacific, Read ing and Smelting, 1. Mrs. Lewis Posther. who lives at 210 South Eighth street, says: "Fo: a year previous to taking Doan's Kidney Pills, I was never without a plaster on my back. I had heavy, bearing down pains through my back and kidneys and the secretions were frequent, distressing and unnatural. I felt generally run down in health and nothing I took did me any good. Seeing Doan's Kidney Pills advertised I got a box at A. G. Luken's drug store and began their use. My back soon felt better. In a short time longer the pains left, and I removed the plaster.
