WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 190G. Diamond rings are floating around Richmond In such profusion that rerBonal adornments of this character threaten to become common. With prosperity on every hand it is strange how the Democrats who propose many changes in governmental affairs an expect to get the attention of the people. On the question of tariff revision the Republicans must be permitted to attend to this without Democratic assistance. The Republicans created tho tariff law when it was needed and If Democrats attempt to remedy It there will likely bo a botch made.' On every subject of National Importance, the Republicans hare been taking the Initiative. The work has been well done 'and there la no disposition to take it out of their hands. Dog days are hqre and the effects are to be seen In th estate of mind of many men, Tom Taggart, for Instance, is still predicting a glorious victory for "hls party." Its funny how the late summer days impel eccentricities to crop out. , Now, if every man In the city who has for. years been deploring the fact that Richmond is without a Y. M. C. A. organization, will cease deploring for a time, and assist the deserving project In a material way, the Y. M. C. A. will be a reality in short order. According to telepgraphic advices trora the other side, Mr. Ilryan has not fully determined the issues of the next National campaign. The only difficulty he Is finding in seeking solid ground, Is that all such Issues are already the stock-in-trade of the Republicans. IIo is "agin" the trusts; so is the Roosevelt administration; he is for tariff revision; so Is the Roosevelt administration; ho is for a future policy for tho Filipinos; so Is the Roosevelt administration In fact he has nothing left excepting the old hobby, free sliver, and should he . pull that from his pocket and flourish it even an instant. It would bo goodbye Mr. Dryau. JACKSONBURG. Jpcksonburg, Ind., July 31. (Spt.) Miss Lena tshivley of Mt. Summit, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Joe Porsonnett.
