HOGS MADE A GAIN OF FIVE CENTS AND RECEIPTS FAIRCATTLE SLOW. Publishers' Presal Indianapolis,- June 26. Receipts, 7,500 hogs, 2,000 cattle and 400 sheep against 8,967 hogs, 1,400 cattle and 298 sheep one week ago and 8,990 hogs 350 cattle and 190 sheep one year ago. The hog market closed with prices advanced 5 cents. Receipts were fair and all buyers were in the market. Big packers were liberal buyers of choice heavy hogs at the advance. Shippers were active In the first hour but later they discriminated in their purchases. Cattle Market was Firm The cattle market generally was steady. There was a display of strength in choice cows and heifers. Comomn kinds, however, were a slow sale, and at the close the whole market was fully steady with recent sales. The bulk of the buying was done by packers. None of the country buyers were in the market. Stockers and feeders and all grass-fed cattle were neglected and the few bids made on them were much lower than last week. Sheep and Lambs Unchanged. The sheep and lamb market was steady. Choice lambs sold steady with last Friday. Yearlings were a shade stronger. Good sheep sold steady. Common kinds were not much in demand. Selling orders appeared in great volume and prices broke violently, followed by sudden rallies, indicating raids by bears and a rush to cover at the decline. The market see-sawed for a time, then began to move upward more resolutely. A half dozen or more of the representative stocks were put up above yesterday's closing and Reading got back to 128.
